Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha inspects storm response work No. 10 in Nghe An

On the afternoon of September 28, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and his delegation inspected storm response work in Nghe An.

Here, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that local response plans for storm No. 10 must be reviewed for each locality and each household.

In Dien Chau commune, the Deputy Prime Minister inspected the Chien Thang anchorage. According to the local government's report, Dien Chau commune currently has 378 fishing vessels with 1,285 workers; all have been called and brought to safe anchorage at ports inside and outside the province. Fishermen have also completed moving their rafts and rafts to storm shelters, there is no longer a situation of subjectivity or spontaneous anchorage.

Along with ensuring the safety of boats, the evacuation of people in dangerous areas was carried out. The commune has 176 households with 540 people who have been arranged to move to relatives' houses with solid structures, some have been temporarily arranged to stay at schools in the area. All evacuation points have been fully prepared with food, drinking water and necessities, ready to ensure the safety of people for many days if the storm lasts.

The commune leaders have directed cadres of specialized sectors, police and military forces, village team leaders, grassroots police officers, the entire political system in blocks, hamlets, units, agencies, schools located in the area and all people to concentrate all human resources, means and equipment to prevent and fight the storm.

Reporting to the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh said that the province has proactively deployed response work according to the "4 on-site" motto. Communes and wards have "gone to every alley, knocked on every door", calling on ships and boats to return to shelters; and houses in vulnerable areas are subject to evacuation, with the elderly and children going first, and healthy people being evacuated later.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged the proactive and urgent spirit of the people of Dien Chau commune; at the same time, emphasized the importance of not being subjective, absolutely following the instructions of the government and functional forces; and requested local forces to continue to stay close to the grassroots, promptly supporting people during the process of responding to the storm and after the storm.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that we absolutely must not be subjective or negligent in any stage of prevention and control work; especially, we must put the safety of people's lives first and foremost.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that response plans for storm No. 10 must be reviewed for each locality and each household. The evacuation work must be completed urgently and resolutely, not allowing people to stay in dangerous areas, especially in aquaculture and seafood farming areas. Local forces must always be ready to respond and provide timely support when unexpected situations arise.

According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province, coastal localities have developed plans to evacuate 2,116 households/6,449 people in the event of storm No. 10. By 3:30 p.m. on September 28, 1,171 households/2,862 people had been evacuated; other localities have evacuated 1,278 households/3,274 people to safety.

The province currently has 2,895 vessels with 13,070 workers directly exploiting seafood. As of 3:30 p.m., 2,891 vessels with 13,048 workers had safely anchored (in the province 2,802 vessels/12,516 workers; outside the province 89 vessels/532 workers). All vessels at the anchorage area were securely secured by the authorities and fishermen. There are only 4 vessels with 22 workers operating in the waters of Ho Chi Minh City, outside the storm's affected area.

Initial reports. Storm No. 10 has damaged hundreds of hectares of rice and vegetables in An Chau, Chau Loc, Quang Chau, Quynh Tam, Chau Tien, Dien Chau communes...; swept away 3 wooden bridges (Muong Ham commune); caused landslides at 5 road points in Chau Binh commune.
