On September 23, President Luong Cuong received Senator Chris Coons, senior member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Congressman Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee and Congressman Young Kim, Chairman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee.

During the meetings, President Luong Cuong expressed his delight at the strong development of Vietnam-US relations, especially after the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023. The President affirmed that Vietnam welcomes substantive results in implementing this framework, while emphasizing Vietnam's commitment to building an independent, self-reliant and deeply integrated economy .

At the meeting with Congressman Brian Mast and Congressman Young Kim, the President affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US a partner of strategic importance in the region and the world .

Sharing with Congressman Brian Mast about the achievements of the bilateral relationship over the past 30 years, the President affirmed that the Vietnam-US relationship is a typical model in international relations, showing that with determination, trust, mutual respect and shared common interests, countries can overcome the painful past to build a better future of cooperation and friendship, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region as well as globally.

Appreciating the role of the US Congress and Congressmen in the efforts to heal, reconcile, build trust and create a foundation to promote cooperation between the two countries, the President asked Congressman Brian Mast and the House Foreign Affairs Committee to continue to pay attention to, support and promote relations between the two countries in all fields, especially the cooperation channel between the two National Assemblies through delegation exchanges, dialogues and sharing of legislative experiences to help promote development in areas of mutual need and enhance trust.

Regarding cooperation in overcoming war consequences, the President highly appreciated the support of the US Government and Congress in handling Agent Orange-dioxin at Bien Hoa airport, as well as programs to support Agent Orange victims, clear bombs and mines, and support people with disabilities in Vietnam.

Congressman Brian Mast affirmed that the US considers Vietnam one of its key partners in Southeast Asia and supports the practical implementation of bilateral relations between the two countries; the Vietnam-US relationship is a model of healing and reconciliation.

He emphasized that, as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, he will actively promote parliamentary exchanges, enhance dialogue between lawmakers of the two countries as well as promote initiatives to enhance economic and trade cooperation, especially in areas of mutual benefit. The Congressman also pledged to support and urge the US Congress to continue to fulfill its commitment to ensuring appropriate resources for humanitarian projects and overcoming the consequences of war in Vietnam.

Congressman Young Kim highly appreciated the bridging role of the Vietnamese-American community and welcomed the two countries' continued promotion of cooperation in all fields, especially economics - trade, education - training, and people-to-people exchange...

At a meeting with Senator Chris Coons, senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides continue to increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, promote trade and investment cooperation, considering this one of the important pillars, and dialogue together to handle remaining differences.

Appreciating the strengths of Delaware state in the fields of biotechnology, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals, the President asked Senator Chris Coons to promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries as well as between Delaware state and Vietnamese localities in these fields.

For his part, Senator Chris Coons emphasized that the US Senate strongly supports promoting increased cooperation in all channels and fields, especially in economics and trade, resolving war consequences, and education and training.

Affirming that in his position, he will continue to promote the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; uphold the traditions left by previous generations of senators, especially in implementing the commitment to cooperate in overcoming the consequences of war. The Senator also highly appreciated the role of Fulbright University Vietnam in promoting training cooperation between the two countries, thereby contributing to supporting Vietnam in making a breakthrough in training high-quality human resources.

During the meetings, the two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. The President stressed the importance of the US continuing to attach importance to ASEAN's central role and enhancing cooperation on global issues. The President asked the US to continue to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN, promote ASEAN's central role, and coordinate at multilateral forums to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

The parliamentarians also stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue and cooperation with ASEAN to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.

The meetings took place in a sincere, open and constructive atmosphere, demonstrating the determination of both sides to further deepen the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
