This morning (September 26) Vietnam time, President Luong Cuong and his wife returned to Hanoi , successfully concluding their working trip to attend the high-level discussion session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly and bilateral activities in the United States.
The visit was successful in both multilateral and bilateral aspects, leaving a good impression on Vietnam's role, position, and positive and substantial contributions in solving global issues as well as promoting Vietnam - US relations.
President Luong Cuong's working trip took place at a time of special significance, as Vietnam celebrated the 80th anniversary of its National Day and the United Nations celebrated the 80th anniversary of its founding. It was also the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam and Vietnam and the United States marked 30 years of normalizing relations and 2 years of upgrading relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Attending the High-Level Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly with 150 heads of state, heads and high-level representatives of many countries, for the first time speaking at the United Nations, President Luong Cuong brought to the General Assembly the "story of Vietnam's development" which is meaningful encouragement and an important source of inspiration.
"As a nation that has experienced countless pains and losses due to war, Vietnam, more than anyone else, deeply understands the precious value of peace . The ideology of peace, harmony, compassion, and altruism is imbued in the identity of the Vietnamese people. Peace is both the goal and a prerequisite for the journey to build a stable, fair, democratic and prosperous future. "Honoring the value of peace, making strong changes to create a sustainable future" is the sincere message that Vietnam wants to send to the international community on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations," President Luong Cuong emphasized.
President Luong Cuong's speech left an impression on the international community, because Vietnamese history has helped to see more clearly the great value of national independence, equality, democracy and social progress.
"One of the key things is: this is a country that has emerged from many years of war, many losses, at an extremely fragile time. As the message Vietnam sends, we see there is always a source of energy, a driving force urging people to stand up together and build their country. I think the world needs more "Vietnams", said Ms. Kanni Wignaraja (Asia-Pacific Regional Director, United Nations Development Program).
Within the framework of the Discussion Session, President Luong Cuong had many contacts, meetings and exchanges with leaders of many countries, international organizations and businesses, especially strategic and important partners and traditional friends.

Through the meetings, leaders of countries and international organizations highly appreciated the role and position of Vietnam, expressing their desire to further expand cooperation in many important areas that Vietnam has needs, thereby contributing to consolidating a solid, stable and favorable foreign situation for maintaining peace, stability and national development.
"Vietnam is entering a new era of development. I think the proposals that the President made today are extremely impressive. Among them are science, technology and a sustainable environment. Rapidly developing green energy is the way to attract technology. Vietnam is very well positioned for both wind and solar power," said Mr. Thomas Valley (Senior Advisor, Weatherhead East Asia Institute, Columbia University).
"I have been back to Vietnam many times and just 3 weeks ago, I was in Vietnam for the 80th anniversary of National Day. We witnessed the parade and the whole celebration. It was a wonderful event. Listening to the President of Vietnam speak, I understand that if you know about the prosperity and economic development that is happening in Vietnam, please share it with the world. I think not only should you share it, but everyone should come to Vietnam and see it for themselves," said Mr. Todd Magee (Executive Director of Operation Smile).
A highlight of the working trip was the program to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day held in New York. Here, President Luong Cuong reviewed the historical journey, from the period of fighting against colonialism and imperialism, gaining national independence, becoming a developing country, middle income and international integration, making positive and substantial contributions to solving global issues.
For the United Nations, Vietnam is a living example of cooperation and companionship. For the United States, its relationship with Vietnam is a testament to the spirit of putting the past behind, overcoming differences, and looking toward the future.
At the meeting with Vietnamese veterans and US veterans who fought in Vietnam, war relics were returned, and gestures showed a spirit of peace and tolerance.
A few decades ago, few could have imagined that Vietnam and the United States could build a relationship like today.

"We cannot rewrite history! But with goodwill and effort, we have been joining hands to build a bright future for our two countries. The story of healing and reconciliation between Vietnam and the United States is living proof of how great the power of tolerance can be and how it can break through limits. Vietnam and the United States both see that no hatred is permanent and no wound cannot be healed, if we know how to open our hearts and look together towards the future," President Luong Cuong affirmed.
"Today's meeting is a testament to the belief that humanity and justice are the guiding principles of diplomacy. This cooperation also sends a strong message to the world: even after war, nations can still choose cooperation over division. My generation will not live long enough to see all wounds healed. That work will be continued by future generations," said Mr. John Terzano (US veteran who fought in Vietnam).
During the meetings with President Luong Cuong, representatives of the US government and states, as well as representatives of the business community, all expressed their wish to develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in an increasingly substantive and in-depth manner on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political regime. The commitment emphasized by the President is that the Vietnamese State will create the most favorable conditions for US investors to confidently choose Vietnam as a long-term destination.
"The meetings of President Luong Cuong clearly demonstrated the spirit of looking to the future, on the basis of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, opening up new opportunities and new horizons for cooperation between the two countries. It can be said that it is very encouraging that both Vietnam and the United States are looking forward to new developments in the bilateral relationship in the coming time," said Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang.
With nearly 70 diverse and effective activities, President Luong Cuong's working trip was a great success, achieving all set goals at a high level, leaving outstanding marks in many aspects, both multilaterally and bilaterally.
Overall, the working trip is a step in implementing Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, proactiveness, and comprehensive, deep, and effective international integration in the international arena.
