Without captain Nguyen Quang Hai, Hanoi Police FC had a deadlocked match. Despite having more possession of the ball, the home team failed to get a single shot on target towards Cebu’s goal during the first 45 minutes.
The same thing happened to the away team, when they chose to play defensively and did not want to counter-attack.
In the 42nd minute, Hanoi Police Club even received a "gift" from their opponent, when a Cebu defender fumbled and lost the ball in the middle of the field. The China striker stole the ball, sprinted to face the Cebu goalkeeper but shot wide.
In the second half, head coach Alexandre Polking sent Nguyen Dinh Bac and Le Pham Thanh Long onto the field. Thanks to that, the Hanoi Police Club's game gradually improved.
The home team created the first chances to threaten the goal, but against Cebu's tight defense, Dinh Bac, Alan Grafite and Le Van Do all missed.
In the 79th minute, disappointed with the performance of the striker duo Alan and China, coach Polking took these two players off to make way for Phan Van Duc and Tran Duc Nam.
Thanks to that, Hanoi Police Club put pressure on Cebu to the point of suffocation in the final minutes of the match. And in the 89th minute, the home team had a lucky opening goal.
After two consecutive shots by Phan Van Duc and Tran Duc Nam, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh was the last one to rush in. He quickly stole the ball from the Cebu goalkeeper's hands and cushioned the ball into the net.
This is a somewhat erroneous situation of the goalkeeper on the Philippine representative side.
1-0 was the final score of the match. The 3 valuable points won against Cebu helped Hanoi Police Club climb to 4th place in Group A of the Southeast Asian Cup.
