Chechen leader's 16-year-old son works as Russian battalion observer

Adam Kadyrov, who turned 16 last week, has been appointed as an observer in a newly formed Russian battalion, Reuters reported.

Specifically, Adam Delimkhanov, head of the Chechen division of the Russian National Guard and a Russian MP, said Adam had been appointed as an observer of a rifle battalion.

"This appointment is a natural result of Adam's important contribution to maintaining the religious, family and cultural values ​​of our people," said Delimkhanov, who is considered Chechnya's second-highest official after Mr Kadyrov.

Russian state media reported that the Chechen rifle battalion was formed earlier this month. The unit is now part of the Russian Defense Ministry's forces.

Earlier this month, one of Mr Kadyrov's top security officials, Zamid Chalaev, said Adam had been appointed head of security for the Chechen leader, a move that would make him one of his father's top bodyguards.

Magomed Daudov, Chairman of the Chechen Legislature, commented: "Adam has shown and proven in practice that he is the most worthy representative of the Kadyrov family and the entire Chechen people."

He said Adam had a steadfast character, principles, a sincere desire and aspiration to contribute "to our republic and the entire Fatherland".

The Chechen Republic is a predominantly Muslim region. Although still part of the Russian Federation, the Chechen Republic has been granted considerable autonomy by Moscow.

Mr Kadyrov, 47, has been a staunch supporter of Russia's military campaign in Ukraine. Last year, he was promoted to Lieutenant General of the Russian National Guard by decree of President Vladimir Putin.
