To Vo Gate is located on the west side of Big Island (one of two islands in Ly Son special zone), with a 9 m long, 2.5 m high arch, formed from volcanic eruptions and sea wave erosion thousands of years ago. This is a famous check-in spot. The name To Vo Gate comes from the characteristic of the exposed basalt arch shaped like a wasp's nest.

According to the relic records, the arch is part of a recognized scenic spot with a total protected area of up to 26,000 m2 , of which the main gate has an area of more than 420 m2 including: the head, the tail and the arch.
The formation of To Vo Gate is closely linked to the formation of Ly Son Island. The island was created by volcanic eruptions tens of millions of years ago. The Big Island at that time had 5 ancient craters, including Tien Gieng Mountain.

Experts believe that the eruption of the Gieng Tien volcano created a thick layer of basalt at the stone gate location. Over time, this basalt layer was broken and eroded by ocean waves. Then, the sea retreated, and the waves continued to hit hard, breaking the weaker middle layer of rock, creating a hollow hole shaped like a wasp's nest as it is today.
Along with the main gate architecture, To Vo Gate space is even more beautiful thanks to the rocky beaches located right next to the basalt platform. Around To Vo Gate there is a diverse ecosystem, with hundreds of species of seafood and coral reefs.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, To Vo Gate is an important part of the chain of geological and cultural heritage in Ly Son, so it is necessary to preserve the stone gate, stone platform and coral reef from the possibility of damage due to nature and humans. This agency also proposed to invest in roads and parking lots for the convenience of tourists.
Ly Son Special Zone is about 30 km from the mainland of Quang Ngai province, an outpost island associated with the history of marking Vietnam's sovereignty over sea and islands. Ly Son has about 50 historical and cultural relics, including 6 national relics and two intangible cultural heritages. In recent years, the island has been a bright spot on the national tourism map. Quang Ngai is orienting to turn Ly Son into a national sea and island tourism center.
