Construction site of the only mountain tunnel on the North-South highway through Ha Tinh

(Dan Tri) - Deo But is the only road tunnel in the length of more than 107km of the North-South expressway in the East through Ha Tinh . This project has an investment of more than 1,100 billion VND, and construction has reached 50% of the volume so far.

Deo But tunnel project in Deo But mountain is located in two communes Ky Hoa (Ky Anh town) and Ky Lac (Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh). This project belongs to the expressway section Vung Ang (Ha Tinh) - Bung ( Quang Binh ).

Deo But Tunnel is nearly 1km long, with a total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND. This is the only road tunnel in the length of more than 107km of the North-South expressway in the East through Ha Tinh. The project is invested by Project Management Board 6 ( Ministry of Transport ) and constructed by Son Hai Group.

According to engineers, the project will officially start in July 2023. After more than 10 months of construction, the 840m long right branch of phase 1 of the project will officially open to traffic on the occasion of the 134th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday (May 19). The left tunnel is expected to open next July.

During the past time when constructing the tunnel, the construction unit encountered many difficulties due to a lot of underground water and loose interspersed rocks. To overcome this, the units agreed on a series of solutions such as strengthening the supporting structure, constructing an inverted arch and working in 3 shifts, 4 shifts/day, during holidays and Tet to make up for the progress.

In late June, the construction unit is implementing the construction of the tunnel's support structure and the remaining items for the right branch. For the left branch, engineers and workers are speeding up construction to clear the tunnel.

At the Deo But tunnel construction site, there are always dozens of workers, engineers and modern machinery and equipment, including robots working non-stop. Thanks to the robot arms, the operators can easily operate to reinforce the tunnel arch.

The construction unit representative also said that up to now, the Deo But tunnel has completed about 50% of the volume, ensuring the set progress.

Deo But Tunnel is designed with 2 tunnels with lengths of 716m and 840m respectively. Each tunnel is 8m high, 15m wide, has 3 lanes and expansion points to prevent incidents during use and an internal lighting system. This project is expected to be completed in December 2025, at the same time as the Vung Ang - Bung expressway section. The North - South expressway in the East phase 2021-2025, the Vung Ang - Bung section has a length of more than 55km, with a total investment of 12,548 billion VND, passing through two provinces of Ha Tinh (12.9km) and Quang Binh (42.44km).
