My son’s first year of primary school has ended with many memorable memories. I am very grateful to teacher To Thi Thanh Thuy – a 1/2 grade teacher at Binh Hung Hoa Primary School, Binh Tan District (old), Ho Chi Minh City, who has accompanied my son on his learning journey. She not only provided knowledge but also created a fun environment that encouraged creativity for the children. It was a school year full of excitement and wonderful experiences that I will never forget.
The gentleness of a first grade teacher
I remember the first day I brought my child to class, she comforted the children who were crying out of fear, patted the little one who was lying on the ground, struggling for his mother, and occasionally turned to reassure the parents. Sweat was dripping down her face, but her eyes were still gentle and warm. With 20 years of experience and many years of teaching first grade, Ms. Thanh Thuy quickly stabilized the class with 50 children. Ms. Thuy shared that she always considered her students as her own children at home. Therefore, she always patiently taught, guided, and tolerated her students' mistakes. She is both a teacher and a parent, so she understands the worries of parents when their children enter a completely new environment and always tries to make sure that parents can feel secure when entrusting their children to the school and teachers.
Indeed, when I heard her confidences, every day waving goodbye to my child at the school gate, my heart felt lighter because I knew my child had met a dedicated teacher, a gentle second mother. Many times during break time, I received a few pictures of my child and his classmates, their faces beaming during recess or sleeping soundly at noon, which made me extremely reassured.
From the beginning of the year, she texted parents that she did not teach extra classes because the children had studied all day at school. In the afternoon, let the children play or learn some extra subjects, exercise to increase confidence and improve health. Yet every afternoon, she stayed to tutor the weak children without receiving any pay. Seeing her diligently teach each student how to write letters and pronounce each word when it was already dark outside, parents appreciated Ms. Thanh Thuy's heart for her beloved students even more. After tutoring the children, she stayed to grade papers and prepare lessons for the next day.
Ms. Thuy always said that children are like a blank sheet of paper, they need to be trained, shaped and given a passion for exploring life, discovering new things and loving learning from the beginning. Therefore, before each lecture, each class, she always prepares very carefully. Many evenings, when passing by the school, she still sees her carefully flipping through each student's notebook and writing words of praise and encouragement. Every time she hands out notebooks for parents to check, looking at the round letters her children write, the warm comments "I praise you", "Thinh has improved a lot, I praise you", I remember her diligent sitting posture in the evenings...
To be able to realize her dream of becoming a teacher, she had to go through many difficulties. In the past, her family was very poor. Her mother was paralyzed on one side, the family had 3 siblings, she was the only girl so she sacrificed to stay home to take care of her mother, let her older brother and younger brother go to school, at that time she was in grade 10. After 2 years, her mother passed away, her grandmother let her go to sewing school. She sewed and studied at the same time. After that, she registered for the teacher training exam, no one in her family agreed because at that time she was very good at sewing, customers loved and appreciated her. But she was determined to follow her wish. Sewing and studying at the same time, thanks to that, she was able to take care of her family and fulfill her dream. That is why she loves and appreciates her teaching profession even more.

Meaningful gifts
Right from the beginning of the year, Ms. To Thi Thanh Thuy still said that the 50 students in the class were 50 different family circumstances. Therefore, all movement activities should be done concisely, effectively and avoid being costly. She was always worried about creating pressure for parents while life was getting more and more difficult, but she did not hesitate to spend time and money to encourage her students' spirit. To help them confidently participate in the rhythmic performance, she bought uniforms for the whole class. At the end of the first semester, to acknowledge the efforts of the children, she took pictures and printed them on pencil boxes and gave each student a box. Blue for boys, pink for girls. On each pencil box, she carefully printed each student's name. My son brought home a pencil box with the words: "Ta Hung Thinh always loves class 1/2" and showed off his face with a radiant smile of joy. I knew how meaningful the gift she gave him really was.
I still remember when the children passed the ink pen practice, the teacher gave each of them a fountain pen with their name engraved on it. It was like a mark for the first graders when entering a new stage. On the final day, the teacher carefully handwrote each comment for the children, and she also carefully printed each lovely picture to stick on. Ms. Thuy always had small but loving gifts to encourage her students.

The children also loved her very much. During recess or at the end of class, they often gathered together to play together in class. Sometimes they invited her to play Chinese chess, sometimes they played Chinese chess with her. Sometimes she prepared beads for the children to string bracelets together and give to each other. Because she was always attentive, the children loved her too and always clung to her.
At the end of the year, the children also wrote thank you letters to the teacher. Even though there were spelling mistakes and the words were still naive, it was the heart of a child.
Students give flowers to Ms. Thuy on March 8th
Although she is always devoted and devoted to her beloved juniors, helping many generations of students, she is always humble enough to think that she needs to try harder. She still shares that she is still learning from books, learning new skills from colleagues, applying information technology to lectures to make the lessons more lively, students feel interested and easily absorb knowledge.
Summer has come, a class of students has said: "Hello blackboard, window/ Hello familiar seat/ Everyone say hello to stay" but she still went to school alone, took a picture of the empty classroom and sent it to the class group with the caption: "I miss you guys so much!" which made me moved to tears.
Thank you, Ms. Thanh Thuy, for having spent meaningful student days with many generations of students at Binh Hung Hoa Primary School. Thank you for being my son's second mother: Loving, caring for, and teaching him wholeheartedly. And sincerely thank you for spreading the image of a simple, gentle, and devoted teacher to everyone.
