DNVN - According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Ngoc Ca (Hanoi National University), Da Nang needs to focus on creative industry - a core element of innovation, and approach cluster development revolving around sea tourism .
On November 15, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of Da Nang organized a workshop to synthesize comments from relevant parties, finalize the content of the project "Da Nang - City of Innovation" and develop a specific action program for the period 2026 - 2030.

According to him, focusing on creative industries will create economic development based on higher added value and more competitive advantages, instead of only focusing on industrial production which tends to be outsourcing, has little added value and is prone to falling into the low-income trap.
“Barcelona (Spain), Copenhagen (Denmark), San Diego (USA), Tel Aviv (Israel), Busan (Korea), Cebu (Philippines), Phuket (Thailand) are some reference models in the world that are suitable for Da Nang, and have some common features such as being close to the sea; ideal living and working environment; diverse types and combinations of innovative projects,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Ca.
According to him, the creative industry model of Da Nang needs to be maximally linked with tourism development; practically serving to promote other strengths of the city such as maritime economy, ports/logistics, traffic hubs, etc. At the same time, turn Da Nang into an ideal living and working space for scientists and technologists, managers, local investors and those from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and abroad.
He suggested that Da Nang needs to cooperate and connect better with other innovation clusters in the country such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; connect with provinces and cities in the region, making Hue and Hoi An become components of Da Nang's ecosystem, not competing against each other but relying on each other.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Ngoc Ca, Da Nang needs to be shaped as a center for a number of clusters of creative industries, finding or creating specific niches for development. In particular, he proposed that Da Nang's creative industry should approach development in clusters revolving around sea tourism. At the same time, it should aim at the 172 billion USD BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) market; film studio service industry; providing services and software solutions for supply chains and logistics; tropical marine architecture; Central cuisine...
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang Le Thi Thuc, the contributions from the discussions and workshops continuously held in the past time are strategic preparations to ensure the project is highly applicable, suitable to the needs and development potential of Da Nang; opening up opportunities for cooperation and comprehensive connection, aiming to develop the city into a sustainable and internationally-reaching innovation center.
