On October 26, the Times Higher Education ranking organization announced the results of the ranking by field - World University Ranking by Subjects 2024 (THE WUR by Subjects 2024). This is a ranking of universities according to 11 training field groups. In the THE WUR by Subjects 2024 ranking,
Hanoi National University continues to maintain the 6 fields ranked in the previous period and adds 2 new fields, being the only educational institution in Vietnam to be ranked. In the 2024 ranking, Hanoi National University (VNU) increased the number of ranked fields to 8/11 fields (an increase of 2 fields compared to the 2023 ranking). In the THE WUR by Subjects 2024 ranking, VNU continues to maintain the 6 fields that were ranked in the previous ranking period and adds 2 new fields to be ranked: Clinical and Health and Education. The Education field was first evaluated by THE and achieved a world ranking of 401-500, being the first and only educational institution in Vietnam to be ranked. The Health and Clinical field was also first evaluated by THE and was ranked 601-800. Thus, VNU has 8/11 fields ranked by THE.
Specific positions of VNU's fields in the 2024 ranking period: 1. Education - ranked 401 - 500; 2. Social Sciences - ranked 501 - 600; 3. Clinical and Health – ranked 601 – 800; 4. Business and
Economics – ranked 601 – 800; 5. Life Sciences – ranked 801 – 1000; 6. Computer Sciences – ranked 801 – 1000; 7. Engineering – ranked 801 – 1000; 8. Physical Sciences – ranked 801 – 1000. Education: VNU, in its first time being ranked by THE WUR by subject in this field, is also the only educational institution in Vietnam to be ranked in THE WUR by subject 2024 with a position in the top 401-500. Previously, in the THE Impact ranking 2023, VNU was also highly appreciated in the Quality Education criterion with a world ranking of 70. Clinical and Health: There are 5 educational institutions in Vietnam ranked in THE WUR by subject 2024, namely VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hue University. Social Sciences include VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Ho Chi Minh City National University. Business and Economics include VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Ho Chi Minh City National University. Computer Science: VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University. Ho Chi Minh City Engineering: VNU, Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, VNU-HCM City. Life Sciences: VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, VNU-HCM City. Physical Sciences: VNU, Ton Duc Thang University, Duy Tan University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, VNU-HCM City. THE World University Ranking by Subject uses data sources taken from surveys (conducted by THE), Scopus database (by Elsevier Publishing House) and data provided by higher education institutions. In the 2024 ranking, THE used a new set of criteria (THE WUR 3.0) including 18 assessment criteria with weights adjusted to suit each individual field (an increase of 5 criteria compared to THE WUR 2.0 in previous rankings) in 5 groups of criteria: teaching, research environment, quality, technology transfer, and internationalization level. Previously, on September 28, THE ranking organization also announced the results of the 2024 world university rankings (THE WUR 2024). In which, VNU was ranked in group 1201 - 1500 out of 1904 ranked higher education institutions. This is also the ranking period with the most participating higher education institutions with 2673 educational institutions from 127 countries and territories.
