Seven projects were started including: Provincial Road DT.975; Cua Can Lake; Underground Infrastructure Project in Duong Dong Area; Underground Infrastructure Project in An Thoi Area; Phu Quoc City Smart Operation and Monitoring Center Project; Embankment Construction and Site Leveling Project for APEC Conference Center and Functional Works; An Thoi Resettlement Area Project. Three projects were started including: Bai Bon Waste Treatment Plant, An Thoi Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant and Cua Can Lake Water Plant.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that these are modern projects with a total investment of thousands of billions of VND, serving the APEC 2027 Conference and contributing to the completion of Phu Quoc's infrastructure, promoting the long-term development of An Giang province. The Deputy Prime Minister requested relevant ministries, branches, localities and units to focus on ensuring safety, quality, technique and aesthetics, striving to complete 3-6 months ahead of schedule, creating a beautiful image of Vietnam and Phu Quoc in the eyes of international friends.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the People's Committee of An Giang province and central ministries and branches to urgently remove difficulties, implement projects openly and transparently, absolutely not allowing corruption, negativity, loss, or group interests to occur. Central ministries and branches should strengthen inspection and supervision; proactively continue to support and accompany the People's Committee of An Giang province to remove difficulties and obstacles in case they arise in practice. At the same time, urgently complete necessary investment procedures for the remaining projects, striving to complete all projects in October 2025.
Compensation and resettlement work must be linked to taking care of people's lives, jobs, and livelihoods, ensuring that new housing is as good as or better than the old one. Investors and contractors must promote a sense of responsibility, carry out construction quickly but must not allow violations or mistakes to arise.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 23 , while inspecting infrastructure projects serving APEC 2027, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung reminded localities and contractors to promptly review, report, and promptly handle any arising problems. In particular, the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project must complete the procedures for handing over infrastructure assets before October 1.
Of the total 21 projects serving APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc, An Giang province has so far selected investors for 7 non-budget projects; approved and selected contractors for 8 public investment projects.
There are 5 projects that have achieved and exceeded the schedule, including: Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project; Bai Dat Do Urban Area Project; Nui Ong Quan Urban Area Project; An Thoi Area Technical Infrastructure Underground Construction Project and Duong Dong Area Technical Infrastructure Underground Construction Project.
The two wastewater treatment plant projects are still in the process of selecting investors. Some of the difficulties mainly focus on investment procedures, land acquisition, and investor selection.
