On the last evening of June, the capital's symphony music lovers had the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable night of music where, under the skillful direction of Music Director and Principal Conductor - Olivier Ochanine, and the talented musicians of the SSO orchestra, the audience seemed to escape from reality to immerse themselves in the beauty of love and music .
Each piece beautifully captures the complexities of love – the joy, the pain, the longing, like a symphony of emotions, stirring memories and evoking a deep sense of connection.
As the lights dimmed in the already packed auditorium of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the show began with the vibrant melodies of Gioachino Rossini's "Overture to Barber of Seville."
This is the story of Figaro, the clever and resourceful barber who “assists” Count Almaviva in his pursuit of the beautiful young maid Rosina, played by the grumpy Dr. Bartolo. With disguises, mistaken identities and comic situations, the opera is a delightful journey of love. This first piece immediately captivates listeners with its cheerfulness and energy.
The lively atmosphere transitions seamlessly into Delibes's enchanting "Mazurka & Czardas" from the ballet Coppelia. With its infectious, vibrant melody and captivating storytelling, "Mazurka & Czardas" perfectly captures the fickle emotions of love.
The first part of the show continued by taking the audience to a romantic world in Waldteufel's "Dolores Waltz". The soulful melodies and the subtle interplay between the sounds of the instruments evoked a feeling of nostalgia and wistfulness when in love.
With timeless masterpieces ranging from Bizet's dramatic “Selections from L'Arlesienne”, Massenet's majestic “Suite from Le Cid” to Offenbach's dreamy “Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman”, the audience was truly captivated by the dreamlike beauty of the music unfolding before their eyes.
The finale of the concert turned the Vietnam National Academy of Music auditorium into a sanctuary of emotions, where music transcended all languages to touch the deepest souls of the audience who witnessed splendid performances from Sousa's "The Belle of Chicago", Meacham's "American Patrol", Strauss Jr.'s "Dithyrambe Mazurka" and Sousa's "Charlatan March".
While Sousa's "The Belle of Chicago" radiates positive energy, evoking the excitement of newly in love couples, Meacham's "American Patrol" evokes images of a bygone era with a deep appreciation for each nation's rich musical heritage.
The performance of Josef Strauss's "Dithyrambe Mazurka" was a delightful experience with its complex yet joyful melody. The concert ended with Sousa's "Charlatan March," a triumphant piece that created a tremendous atmosphere with thunderous applause that continued.
“The theme of love in music is not new but will never be old because no matter how it is exploited, I think we will always see new aspects.
