Soil overflowed onto the North-South railway

VnExpressVnExpress12/04/2024

A landslide of about 180 cubic meters of rock and soil from the ceiling of Bai Gio tunnel onto the railway line caused the North-South railway line through Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces to be cut off on April 12.

The landslide is about 5 meters long, about 85 meters from the north entrance of Bai Gio tunnel (Khanh Hoa). This road section is part of the weak tunnel renovation project that is under construction, according to a representative of Vietnam Railway Corporation .

Mr. Le Quang Vinh, Director of Phu Khanh Railway Exploitation Branch, said that at the time of the landslide, no passenger trains were passing by.

After the incident, railway units mobilized two construction trains to the scene to clear the landslide and spray concrete to temporarily reinforce the tunnel lining. It is expected that by 10 p.m. the same day, the incident resolution work will be completed.

Currently, 8 passenger trains have had to stop at stations along the route near the landslide area, including SE8, SE5, SE22, SE21, SE4, SE3, SE6 and SE1. More than 1,700 passengers on these trains have been transferred by road through the landslide to continue their journey.

The railway industry coordinates with functional forces to regulate road traffic through Ca Pass, restricting heavy trucks from passing through this area to ensure traffic safety.
