'Red mark' of Liberation News Agency in Lo Go - Xa Mat forest

Hidden in the middle of the Chang Riec forest in Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park (Tan Bien commune, Tay Ninh province), the Liberation News Agency (GP) Memorial Stele is a testament to a heroic historical period as well as the steadfast, silent contributions of journalists in general and the GP in particular.

15 years of persistence

More than half a century ago, in the middle of the Tay Ninh jungle, VNA - the frontline agency of Vietnam News Agency (now Vietnam News Agency), steadfastly existed, carrying out its information and propaganda tasks for 15 years (from October 12, 1960 to April 30, 1975).

On October 12, 1960, when the first news bulletin of Giai Phong Xa (abbreviated name of TTXGP) was broadcast from the Chang Riec forest, it was also the time when TTXGP officially announced its birth to the compatriots and people of the world . As the official mouthpiece of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, TTXGP became a particularly important "link" on the ideological front, contributing to the overall victory of the entire nation.

Amidst the dangers of enemy bombs and bullets, reporters, editors, and technicians of TTXGP both stayed put and moved flexibly to promptly collect, process, and broadcast news from the southern battlefield. Not only reporting news, TTXGP also transferred important documents and materials of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam to Vietnam News Agency, from there broadcasting to the world, contributing to spreading the justice in our national liberation struggle.

Many VNA officers and reporters have heroically sacrificed their lives while on duty. To commemorate and pay tribute to those great contributions and sacrifices, in September 2000, the Southern Vietnam News Agency built a VNA Memorial Monument at the old base site, in the heart of Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park.

On the memorial stele are solemnly engraved 16 golden words awarded by the Central Office for Southern Vietnam: “Diligence, courage, self-reliance, overcoming difficulties, completing tasks”. It is like a reminder of the indomitable spirit, overcoming difficulties, and loyalty of those who worked as war reporters in the past.

Destination to understand history

Having had the opportunity to visit and stand in front of the memorial in the middle of the forest, journalist Nguyen Thi Duc Hanh (Vietnam News Agency, Tay Ninh province) was moved: “There were days when every news and photo sent had to be exchanged with blood and bones. The previous generation of journalists in general and the predecessors of the News Agency in particular brought the news of victory through bombs and bullets to the people. That is what makes the next generation like us always grateful and proud.”

Today, the TTXGP Memorial is an emotional destination for working groups, veterans, young reporters and visitors from near and far. Here, every step under the forest canopy will remind visitors of the story of those who once “turned” the deep forest into a “newspaper office”, holding a steady hand with their pen and camera amidst bullets and bombs to keep the flow of information uninterrupted.

The Vietnam News Agency Memorial Stele, together with the Liberation Radio Station Memorial Stele, the Liberation Newspaper Agency Memorial Stele, the Tran Phu Printing House Base Memorial Stele, the shrine to the 7 martyrs of the Long An Art Troupe and the "R" Arts School, the Liberation Film Studio Base Memorial Stele,... in Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park, form an affirmation of the silent but no less important contribution of the team of propagandists during the resistance war.

Located in Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park, the cluster of memorial steles and the historical site of the Southern Central Bureau Base combined with the typical forest ecosystem of the national park create a unique attraction for eco-tourism activities - returning to the source. Trips to nature and learning more about history not only bring interesting experiences to visitors but also effectively serve the work of traditional education and fostering patriotism./.
