But inside the fence of the Nguyen Hue Flower Street construction site for the 2024 Lunar New Year, hundreds of workers were still busy paving bricks, connecting electricity, and carrying small potted plants to the right place...

Mr. TT, the construction site security guard, said that according to the schedule, the shift would start at 8am, but from around 7am, the workers were already present, preparing machinery and equipment to start work. Everyone took advantage of the cool weather in the early morning to work more effectively and because of the urgent time, the contractor also sped up the progress.

Nguyen Hue Street is divided into 3 construction sections. Near the intersection of Nguyen Hue and Le Loi, a group of workers are assembling the mascot. A little below, towards Ton Duc Thang Street, the contractor is making a dragon boat and next to it is the dragon body assembly.

Units rush to construct Nguyen Hue flower street 2024

Quickly plastering cement into each brick to form a flower garden, Mr. Huynh Thanh Hoang occasionally calls on the female workers in the same team to add water to the mortar. This is the first year participating in the construction of Nguyen Hue flower street, and also the first year Mr. Hoang does not return to his hometown in Binh Dinh to celebrate Tet. Therefore, not only does he want to finish the work quickly to avoid the sun and heat, but Mr. Hoang is also eagerly waiting for the flower street to take shape so that he can "enjoy Tet in Saigon" for the first time. "This year, I will definitely go to the flower street to take pictures. I know how to do it, the design is very grand", Mr. Huynh Thanh Hoang shared.

Above, the iron frames of the dragon mascots have already "settled", occupying the entire pedestrian street. This is the "skeleton" of 3 mascots over 100 m long at the grand opening scene (intersection of Nguyen Hue - Le Loi) and the final gate (intersection of Nguyen Hue - Ton Duc Thang) which Saigontourist Group, the Flower Street Organizing Committee, previously informed that it set a record for the largest zodiac animal size ever to appear on the flower street, surpassing the dragon of Nham Thin 2012 and the tiger of Nham Dan 2022.

Not only impressing with the record size of the mascot, Mr. Nguyen Dong Hoa, Deputy General Director of Saigontourist Group, said that the overall design of Nguyen Hue Flower Street this year is very grand and unique. After the theme was approved, from April 2023, Saigontourist built the design task and invited all design units across the country to participate.

All the artistic designs have such unique, high-rise structures that when receiving the drawings, Saigontourist Group had to discuss with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Construction and the design unit to see if these soaring designs were realistic or not, and whether it was possible to make the beautiful mascots appear on the flower street or not.

The organizers had to invite 7 units to participate in giving comments on the design of 3 large scenes right from the first minutes of implementation, then selected 9 construction units, including 3 large scene construction units, 3 small scene construction units and 3 flower suppliers. It is expected that the cost to complete each mascot on the flower street this year will be 5 times higher than the mascots of previous years.

It is worth mentioning that despite the huge scale and cost, the work of calling for sponsorship for the flower street this year has faced many challenges. "In the context of general difficulties, the program could not find diamond sponsors or gold sponsors like every year. However, thanks to the cooperation and companionship of the business community, the flower street still has funding to implement, continuing to be a spring destination for people and tourists to Ho Chi Minh City", Mr. Nguyen Dong Hoa shared.

Join hands for a green city

Not only a symbol of spring, Nguyen Hue flower street is also a welcome, inviting international friends to come and experience a dynamic, affectionate city. At the end of the 20th century, this street was also called "Nguyen Hue Tet Market". At that time, people came here not only to buy flowers but also to admire, enjoy and enjoy the typical flavor of the Tet flower market.

The sounds of laughter, hawking, bargaining, and even the jingling of ice cream boxes have become familiar sounds associated with the city's residents. Not outside of this strategy, the mascots and miniature landscapes of Nguyen Hue flower street this year are also designed to be environmentally friendly, with more than 90% of the materials used in the shaping process being rattan, bamboo, and fan blinds. The structure helps the mascots increase construction time and costs, but also helps reduce wind resistance, creating a "realistic breathing" effect and meeting green criteria.

For the first time, the flower street has the image of a golden tree, with 9 works made by the hands of artisans of Mai Vang Rong Viet Joint Stock Company. The golden trees are 1 - 3.6 m high and were formed over many months, with names carrying wishes for peace in the new year such as Mai Dai Phuc, Mai Rong Viet, Dao Truong Xuan, Dao Phuoc Loc, Bo De Dai Cat... Visitors can admire 9 golden trees, especially can compare between one side is natural flowers with many colors and the other side is flowers crafted by skilled hands of humans.

In particular, many works on this year's flower street will be retained. Of which, 3 dragon mascots and 2 golden trees will be transferred by the organizers to businesses and individuals who love and need them after the 2024 flower street ends. All proceeds will be donated to charity funds, in line with the spirit of Ho Chi Minh City's love.

In addition, this year's flower street also contributes to enhancing the role of the city's High-Tech Agricultural Zone. Over the years, the city's High-Tech Agricultural Zone has brought to the flower street many agricultural products grown in a clean and green way. On Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2024, for the first time, the organizing committee has sketched out a separate design area for this unit. Located inside the "Spring Flower Boat" scene, this area simulates the research room of the zone, where agricultural products are born, incubated and bred through the application of new techniques and new technologies such as fermentation techniques, biotechnology, IoT technology... along with attractive agricultural achievements.

Nguyen Hue Flower Street on the occasion of the Year of the Dragon serves the spring outing and sightseeing needs of locals and tourists from 7 p.m. on February 7 (December 28) to 9 p.m. on February 14 (January 5). Construction of the flower street takes place from 7 a.m. on January 21 to 12 p.m. on February 7.
