Cultural heritage in the heart of Dong Nai

Not only is it a unique cultural destination, the Tran Bien Temple of Literature campus and many surrounding constructions are being renovated to meet the needs of sightseeing, studying and living of Dong Nai residents and tourists from all over.

Renovating some items around the Temple of Literature

In order to ensure the landscape, environmental sanitation and maintenance of construction items at Tran Bien Temple of Literature, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son issued Document No. 2285/UBND-KGVX dated August 1, 2025 to the departments and the People's Committee of Tran Bien Ward. In particular, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to renovate the area around the Temple of Literature. The tasks include: cleaning, renovating roads, arranging parking lots, assigning security forces to work 24/7, and developing a bidding plan for the management of the Temple of Literature Park.

To implement this direction, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned Dong Nai Museum to coordinate with relevant units to renovate a number of construction items. These include moving the banyan tree and stele planted by officers and soldiers of Air Force Regiment 935 to the inside and cleaning up damaged stone benches, creating a clear path into the relic grounds; cleaning the area where people often offer incense at the rock mountain near the Ly Thai To monument.

Dong Nai Museum has been introducing a 360 virtual reality tour of the Tran Bien Temple of Literature National Monument on its website. This helps the public easily access and learn about the historical and cultural values of Dong Nai land right on the online platform.

For the degraded houses in the Tran Bien Cultural Celebrity Sculpture Garden area, the unit has renovated, cleaned the eaves, roof tiles, repaired damaged walls, and restored the walkways around the Northern and Central houses. At the same time, equipped 2 solar lights with a capacity of 500W to illuminate the Central and Southern houses; ensuring that there are regular security guards at the relics...

Ms. Le Thi Hanh, a resident living near the Tran Bien Temple of Literature, shared: “Local people are very happy to see the province paying attention to renovating, cleaning, and creating landscapes for the Tran Bien Cultural Celebrity Statue Garden. The lake areas and blooming lotus flowers have created a very beautiful scene, contributing to making the space here more attractive.”

Preserving and promoting heritage values

Built in 1715, under the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu, Tran Bien Temple of Literature is considered the first temple of literature in the Southern region. This is not only a place to honor talented people but also a symbol affirming the spirit of respecting teachers of the people of the South in general, Dong Nai in particular. Over more than 3 centuries with many historical changes, the temple of literature has been damaged many times. However, with the efforts to preserve and promote the heritage value, the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Nai, the project has been restored and embellished many times, making this place a typical cultural and educational institution.

Nowadays, Tran Bien Temple of Literature has become a space for many meaningful activities, closely related to the spiritual life of the people. Notable ones are: Teacher's Day, Spring Flower Festival, Spring Newspaper Festival, Vietnam Poetry Day and Dong Nai Artists Day; reporting ceremonies, or ancestor worship ceremonies... Not only stopping at preserving, maintaining and honoring traditional values, the Temple of Literature has also become a special cultural address, a place to remember the origin, remember ancestors and revive the spirit of learning in the ancient land of Tran Bien.

Dr. Nguyen Van Quyet, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association of Dong Nai province shared: "The restoration and embellishment of the relic and the renovation of the items around the Temple of Literature is not only a responsibility to the cultural heritage but also creates a space for community activities, connecting the tradition of studiousness of our ancestors with today's young generation. This will also be an important highlight in the cultural tourism map of Dong Nai in the coming time."

Also in Document No. 2285/UBND-KGVX, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Finance, relevant agencies and units to review the entire content of the Project on Preservation and Promotion of the Value of Tran Bien Temple of Literature to ensure compliance with current legal regulations and the planning orientation for urban, cultural and tourism development of the province.

In particular, pay special attention to the level of compliance with the provisions of the law on cultural heritage, public investment and construction management; feasibility, efficiency, progress of items; coordination mechanism between agencies and units... Research, advise and propose to the Provincial People's Committee plans to mobilize resources, in which priority is given to socialization, attracting businesses, organizations and individuals to participate in the work of preserving and promoting the value of relics.

Most recently, on September 11, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son sent a document to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting the department to research and include the recommendations and proposals in the Project to Preserve and Promote the Value of the Tran Bien Temple of Literature relic, and to implement it closely in accordance with the direction of the Provincial People's Committee.
