On the evening of September 27, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the uprising to liberate Cam Thanh commune (1964-2024), representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province presented the certificate of national intangible cultural heritage "The craft of making bamboo and coconut houses in Cam Thanh" to representatives of the leaders of Cam Thanh commune.

Previously, on February 21, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) issued Decision No. 380 to include "Bamboo and coconut house making in Cam Thanh" in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On this occasion, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam also awarded a certificate of recognition for meeting traditional craft criteria for Cam Thanh bamboo and coconut craft.

The craft of making bamboo and coconut houses in Cam Thanh originates from the natural living environment of the residents along the river estuary surrounding the coconut and bamboo forests. Based on available materials, the local residents here have been creative in processing and assembling bamboo and coconut houses suitable to the living conditions and environment.

In addition to using the intangible cultural heritage (CH) values ​​of the profession in production labor, preservation and promotion, the intangible cultural heritage of the bamboo and coconut house making profession is also performed on-site to serve tourists, in festival activities, tourism promotion, traditional craft villages, exhibitions of large craft villages taking place locally and nationwide.

Contribute to promoting the development of craft villages, introducing and promoting the image and products of craft villages to a large number of people and tourists across the country.

The method of making bamboo and coconut houses has its own characteristics of Hoi An land that not every place has, from the design to the technique of handling raw materials, processing and assembling, all demonstrate the creativity, diligence and eagerness to learn of the craftsmen.

Thereby, reflecting the history of formation and development of villages, craft villages and traditional occupations in Cam Thanh commune in particular and the urban - commercial port of Hoi An in general.

Hoi An City currently has 6 occupations included in the list of national intangible cultural heritages, including: Thanh Chau bird's nest exploitation; Thanh Ha pottery; Kim Bong carpentry; Tra Que vegetable growing; bamboo and coconut house making in Cam Thanh; and traditional craft of weaving hammocks from parasol trees in Cu Lao Cham.
