In the journey to build a green - clean - bright city, the implementation of solutions to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco has also been carried out by Hue city at all levels, sectors and fields. In particular, the Complex of Hue Monuments is promoting the construction of a "smoke-free destination" model.

According to Van Hoa , every day in the Hue Royal Palace area, there are thousands of tourists visiting, learning and experiencing cultural products. At the entrance/exit areas of the relic sites, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has installed additional "no smoking area" signs in locations that are easy for tourists to see and access.

In addition, security guards at relic sites are also assigned to propagate the prohibition of smoking, especially in worship areas. When detecting visitors smoking, the staff will remind them to be polite and behave culturally. At relic sites such as The Mieu, Trieu Mieu or relic works that attract a lot of tourists such as Thai Hoa Palace, Kien Trung Palace... visitors have paid attention to the notice signs and do not smoke.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong from Binh Duong visited Hue relics in the first days of the new year and shared: “The space in Hue Imperial City is very green and airy, creating a comfortable feeling for visitors. When we arrived at the relic sites, we saw signs saying “no smoking” and almost all visitors followed them quite well. This has contributed to creating a safe and civilized environment in tourism.”

Many international tourists visiting the Hue Royal Palace Heritage Site also expressed their satisfaction and impression with the landscape space, the fresh environment, and the absence of cigarette smoke. In recent times, many fires and explosions at relic sites have caused many impacts, and the construction of a smoke-free destination at the Hue Heritage Site also contributes to preventing the risk of fires and explosions at relic sites.

Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that recently the construction of a "smoke-free destination" at the Hue heritage site has been actively implemented. The Center has established a Steering Committee for the prevention of tobacco harms, in which representatives of departments, offices, and affiliated units participate.

At relic sites and workplaces, the unit has placed signs stating “no smoking”, “no smoking”…; organized propaganda, mobilizing tourists to respond. Especially spreading so that tour guides can share this information with tourists, joining hands to build a green and safe environment at Hue heritage site.

“We also request that service points at relics belonging to the Hue Monuments Complex be prohibited from organizing the sale, advertising, and introduction of tobacco. The Center also refuses sponsorship from businesses and individuals related to tobacco advertising...”, Mr. Phan Van Tuan informed.

From 2022, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will choose Hue heritage site as a pilot smoke-free model and organize training and propaganda activities for staff on duty at the relic sites. In addition to implementing solutions in the relic area, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center also strictly prohibits employees from smoking in the office; propagates and disseminates the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms and encourages employees to limit or quit smoking...

The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province - now the People's Committee of Hue city has issued a Plan to implement the national strategy on tobacco harm prevention and control until 2030. In particular, the goal in the period of 2026-2030 will be to reduce the rate of passive exposure to tobacco smoke in the workplace to below 25%; in restaurants to below 65%; in bars and cafes to below 70%; in hotels to below 50%...

The People's Committee of Hue City requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to deploy a plan to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco throughout the industry, and direct the strict implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of the Harmful Effects of Tobacco in agencies and units under the management of the industry. At the same time, coordinate the implementation of communication, training, inspection and supervision activities...; participate in inter-sectoral inspection of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of the Harmful Effects of Tobacco, especially focusing on entertainment areas, tourist areas, relics... with many visitors.

A smoke-free tourist attraction is a public place for sightseeing and tourism purposes, where smoking, tobacco sales, or tobacco marketing are prohibited throughout the entire premises (including indoor and outdoor areas).

Implementing a smoke-free tourism model aims to create a clean, safe environment, ensuring the rights of non-smokers to breathe fresh air without cigarette smoke; at the same time, reducing the risk of fire and explosion, protecting the tourist landscape, creating a civilized tourism environment, attracting tourists; reducing the rate of tobacco use and reducing the rate of illness and death caused by smoking...

Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, emphasized: “Hue is a green, clean, cultural city, worthy of being a tourist destination that tourists will choose for its clean, green products. This trend is based on people's needs, the desire to find useful values, beneficial for health, physical and mental health. Cultural and environmental values that bring practical benefits to tourists are the criteria that Hue has.”
