"Tiger" trucks destroy model residential area roads, people helplessly live with pollution

Every day, hundreds of trucks carrying soil move on the road to Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune (Can Loc district, Ha Tinh).

Recently, the Son Binh village road, Thuong Loc commune, more than 2 km long, connecting National Highway 15 to Provincial Road 70, has been allowed by local authorities at all levels to be used by investors and construction units as a service road for the North-South Expressway project. This is a beautiful road to the model village of Son Binh in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province.

Mrs. Tran Thi Song, residing in Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province, is terrified every day of having to endure the dust and noise of the "tiger" trucks carrying soil passing by.

The "tiger" convoy operates at a high frequency, causing many cracks and uneven surfaces on this model road. In the dry season, dust flies up along the main road in Son Binh village, causing serious environmental pollution. In the rainy season, deep puddles and mud appear on the road, affecting the traffic of local people.

The road surface was muddy and bumpy due to the "tiger" trucks plowing through, causing many difficulties for people participating in traffic.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuoc, residing in Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune, Can Loc district, indignantly said: "Son Binh is the first village in the locality to be recognized as a model new-style rural residential area, a great effort of the local government and the people. However, the new concrete roads and rows of trees that we built have been destroyed by large trucks that have been raging for many months."

According to Ms. Tran Thi Phuoc, residing in Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune, Can Loc district, every day there are hundreds of "tiger" trucks carrying soil passing through this route.

Even though it was just the beginning of the rainy season, it made our people very miserable. The rain made the roads slippery and mud splashed all over us. In the morning, when I took my child to school, I had to put his uniform in my backpack and change it when I got to class to avoid getting it dirty.

The truck carrying dirt passed by, splashing mud and dirt, dirtying the people participating in traffic.

According to local residents, the huge trucks carrying dirt operate at high frequency, continuously from about 5am to 8pm every day. Each truck carries a lot of dirt and rocks, which fall onto the road, causing many households on both sides to suffer from dust and mud.

The convoy of "tiger" trucks carrying dirt took up most of the roadway area, affecting traffic.

After a period of exploitation, the main road in Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune, Can Loc district was destroyed by heavy trucks. The heavy weight of the trucks caused many wheel ruts and bumps on the road surface, making it unsafe to travel on this route, especially at night.

Ms. Le Thi Xuan (residing in Son Binh village) points to a seriously degraded road in Son Binh model village, Thuong Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province.

Ms. Bui Thi Huong (owner of a grocery store on the roadside of Son Binh village) said: "I opened a grocery store 3 years ago, before that, the goods were still sold normally. About a year ago, many trucks carrying soil passed by, causing dust and pollution, and the goods became unsalable. I clean regularly, but dust still sticks thickly to the shelves and products."

Ms. Bui Thi Huong's grocery store is covered in white dust.

Mrs. Tran Thi Song (whose house is also located next to the road in Son Binh village, Thuong Loc commune) said: "Rain or shine, every day there are hundreds of trucks carrying dirt running on this road. Every time a truck passes by, I am haunted, I have to stand by the side of the road and wait for the truck to pass before I dare to go.

We hope that the project will be completed quickly so that the convoy will not pass through, restoring the original peace to the locality. In addition, we hope that the government and relevant agencies will take measures to soon repair some of these seriously degraded sections of the road."

Talking to Dan Viet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dieu - Chairman of Thuong Loc Commune People's Committee, said: "We have learned that many trucks carrying soil running on Son Binh village road cause environmental pollution and damage the concrete road."
