Ha Nam Island is located on the historic Bach Dang River, which has existed for a long time. People here live on the river all year round. The unique men's pole swimming competition takes place during the Xuong Dong festival on this island every year, with the wish to pray for favorable weather and good crops. The men's pole swimming competition between teams, along with showing patriotism, also recreates the spirit of our ancestors fighting foreign invaders on the historic Bach Dang River more than 700 years ago.

The photo series was taken by the author at the Going to the Field Festival in Phong Coc ward, Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh). The Going to the Field Festival originates from the Ha Dien and Thuong Dien ceremonies of the residents of the Ha Nam river island region, which takes place at the beginning of the 6th lunar month every year, before the Summer rice planting season. The festival takes place at Coc communal house (Phong Coc ward, Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh) with many unique rituals and cultural and sports activities, Te Yet, Swimming competition, Yet, Going to the Field competition, Traditional rowing, Giai Ha swimming, especially the unique Pole swimming sport of the Bach Dang river area, which is a national intangible cultural heritage. The festival of going down to the fields is a unique traditional festival, originating from the custom of "ha dien" and "thuong dien" ceremonies of the residents of Ha Nam region. This festival has existed for a long time in the daily life of the people of Ha Nam island area, held annually before people start planting crops. Through this, people express their gratitude to the agricultural gods and village guardian spirits, praying for the gods to bless the crops. In 2024, the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam" continues to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website https://happy.vietnam.vn for all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and over. The contest aims to honor individuals and groups with positive information products, making practical contributions to the propaganda and promotion of beautiful images of Vietnam to the world. Thereby helping people in the country, compatriots abroad and international friends access authentic images of the country, Vietnamese people, Vietnam's achievements in ensuring human rights, towards a happy Vietnam.
