At the workshop "Mekong Delta - New source of breakthrough growth" organized by VSIP Can Tho Joint Stock Company in collaboration with the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, Ho Chi Minh City branch, in Can Tho City on September 23, 2025, experts and investors highly appreciated the potential and advantages of the Mekong Delta and shared the view that, in recent years, localities in the region have had many positive changes, achieved important economic achievements and increasingly affirmed their role in the overall development picture of the whole country. This land rich in potential is expected to become a new growth pole of Vietnam.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Thach - Deputy Head of Legal Department, Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry presented a paper at the Workshop.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Thach - Deputy Head of the Legal Department, Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Mekong Delta is the largest rice granary and fruit and seafood production center in the country; contributing 31.37% of the GDP of the entire agricultural sector with more than 50% of rice output, 65% of aquaculture output, 70% of fruit output, 95% of rice exports and 60% of seafood exports. This is a great potential for developing high-tech agriculture and deep processing, meeting international market demand.

With its long coastline and stable wind conditions, the Mekong Delta has great potential for offshore wind and solar power development. This is an opportunity to attract investment in clean energy.

The dense river network of the Mekong Delta can be exploited to develop inland waterway transport, reduce logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of export goods. Infrastructure projects such as deep-water ports and expressways will facilitate the transport of goods, reducing logistics time and costs.

In addition, the canal system and fruit gardens of the Mekong Delta create unique cultural and eco-tourism products, attracting international tourists and investors.

In particular, expressways such as Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang and An Huu - Cao Lanh, which are about to be put into operation, will shorten the time for transporting goods from the Mekong Delta to Ho Chi Minh City and Cai Mep - Thi Vai port, reducing logistics costs by 30 - 40%. Modern transport infrastructure will create a big boost for attracting FDI to the Mekong Delta, especially logistics projects and agricultural and aquatic product processing.

In order to effectively exploit the potential and advantages of the region, Mr. Pham Ngoc Thach proposed that localities continue to focus on improving the investment environment by cutting administrative procedures, specifically cutting 30% of time and unofficial costs in land, construction and environmental procedures, creating a transparent and favorable business environment for investors. Providing 100% of full-service public services, helping businesses save time and costs, improving management and operational efficiency.

At the same time, publicize all land use planning, construction and budget, helping investors have full information to make investment decisions, reduce risks and increase confidence. Proactively grasp the opinions of investors and businesses, deploy periodic dialogue activities, by topic and field to promptly resolve problems...

In addition to its favorable location, Can Tho also has strong economic potential and a young, abundant workforce. With a population of more than 3.2 million people after the merger, along with 37 universities and colleges, Can Tho is also the region's leading educational center - a place to train quality human resources for future industries.

VSIP Can Tho has a scale of 900 hectares, of which phase 1 is nearly 300 hectares, with a total investment of 152 million USD. Right from the start, the project has attracted the trust of many global investors. A clear proof is that Bestway - the world's leading group in inflatable entertainment products - has chosen VSIP Can Tho as its headquarters in Vietnam. With an investment of nearly 200 million USD, this project will create about 5,000 jobs, demonstrating the strong attraction of Can Tho and the reputation of VSIP as a partner,” Mr. Leaw Wee Ming shared.

For agricultural, aquatic and food processing enterprises, Can Tho has abundant raw materials from the whole region, a complete cold storage - cold chain logistics system, food safety standards and traceability for export.

For logistics businesses, warehouses, and distribution centers, Can Tho is a natural transit point in the region (air, highway, waterway, seaport connection), optimizing multimodal transportation costs.

For high-tech, biomedical, new material, and green packaging enterprises, the City encourages energy-saving and emission-reduction projects and is ready to support human resources, research, and inspection.
