Breakthrough in traffic infrastructure seen from West to East of Hai Phong

The breakthrough in traffic of the old Hai Duong province and the old Hai Phong city in this term will be the driving force for the new city after the merger to develop faster.

The North-South axis route of Thanh Mien district and the East-West axis route of Hai Duong province (old) have been opened to traffic, becoming vital traffic routes.

West opens main traffic route

In the 2020 - 2025 term, Hai Duong province (old) will devote large resources to investing in the transport infrastructure system.

The East-West Axis Road Construction Investment Project is the first Group A traffic project of Hai Duong province with a total investment of 1,778 billion VND. This is also the project with the longest route, the lifeline of Hai Duong province (old).

With a route length of 36.5 km, the East-West axis road of Hai Duong province is planned to have 4-6 lanes, with investment phases of a level III road (roadbed 12 m, road surface 11 m). On the route, there are 2 new bridges: Phi Xa bridge and Bac Hung Hai bridge.

The first package of the project started in July 2022, the last package started in January 2023. On April 19, 2025, the project was completed and the opening ceremony was held.

On the same day, the North-South axis road of Thanh Mien district was also opened to traffic. The North-South axis road of Thanh Mien district connects with the East-West axis road of Hai Duong province to create a continuous route, becoming the main artery of the south of Hai Duong province (old).

According to the West Hai Phong Construction Investment Project Management Board, the completion and opening of the entire project route is of great significance, forming an inter-regional traffic axis, connecting National Highway 5 with the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway, National Highway 38B, National Highway 10; connecting the districts of Cam Giang, Binh Giang, Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, Tu Ky, Thanh Ha (old).

The route has contributed to completing the regional traffic infrastructure planning, creating favorable conditions to attract investors to the dynamic industrial zone of Hai Duong province, creating a breakthrough in socio-economic development of districts: Cam Giang, Binh Giang, Thanh Mien in particular and the old Hai Duong province in general, now the western area of ​​Hai Phong city.

The East-West axis has connected the main routes of Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway with Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway, National Highway 38B, Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, North - South axis route of Hai Duong province, National Highway 37, National Highway 10 and connected many provincial roads of the old Hai Duong to complete the traffic network, creating a driving force for socio-economic development between Hai Duong and neighboring provinces in the past and Hai Phong city, now creating an East - West connection of Hai Phong after the merger.

Also in the 2020 - 2025 term, Hai Duong province (old) has planned new strategic road traffic axes, focused resources on implementing connecting traffic projects (57 important projects with a total length of about 285 km, total investment of nearly 30,000 billion VND), mobilized social investment in the construction of 4 traffic projects; coordinated investment in the construction of 6 large river bridges, and implemented investment in the construction of two large-scale inland waterway ports in Ninh Giang district and Kinh Mon town (old).

The East is the main gateway to the sea of ​​the North.

During this term, in the East of Hai Phong city, the traffic infrastructure has made a breakthrough in synchronous and modern development, contributing to the successful performance of its role as an important traffic hub and main gateway to the sea of ​​the northern provinces, connecting inter-regionally and internationally.

Regarding sea transport, the system of Hai Phong international gateway ports in Lach Huyen continues to be invested in and upgraded, able to receive container ships with a capacity of up to 165,000 DWT to reduce load entering and leaving the port.

The city has focused on investing in transport infrastructure connecting logistics centers with international seaport areas, connecting with economic belts and corridors.

Green Logistics Center, Yusen Logistics Center have been put into operation. CDC Hai Phong Gateway Port Logistics and Trade Service Center, Logistics Center in Hai Phong International Gateway Port Industrial Park (Deep C3) are under construction.

The city's seaport system is developing strongly. Lach Huyen International Gateway Port has put into operation berths 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and is continuing to carry out investment procedures to build the remaining berths.

Thanks to synchronous and modern investment, Hai Phong port city has promoted its role as a gateway to the sea and a major logistics center in the North. In the period of 2020 - 2024, the total import-export turnover is about 317.3 billion USD, the city's e-commerce index is among the top 5 provinces and cities in the country. In the first 8 months of 2025, the output of goods through the port in Hai Phong reached 120.14 million tons, an increase of 12.25% over the same period in 2024.

Not only the seaport, but the Cat Bi International Airport is also being built by Vietnam Airports Corporation to build passenger terminal No. 2; expand the aircraft parking lot (phase 2) and invest in building the cargo terminal of Cat Bi International Airport.

In the 2020 - 2024 period, Hai Phong city will build 35.27 km of new national highways; 30.78 km of provincial roads; 55.49 km of district roads, 137 km of urban roads; 22 bridges with a length of over 10,430 m and more than 1,000 km of rural roads.

With the appearance and infrastructure of the majestic port city today, Hai Phong's economy has grown, and people's lives are increasingly prosperous and happy.

Officials, party members and people believe and expect that the traffic of the new Hai Phong city with the achievements in the past term of Hai Duong province and the old Hai Phong city before the merger will help the city "take off" and reach far in the next term.
