Tourists board flight to Africa thinking they are going to France

American girl Brittney Dzialo is becoming famous around the world for boarding a flight to Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, instead of her intended destination of Nice, France.

In a video posted on social media on Monday, Dzialo and her friend boarded a Tunisair flight from Rome (FCO), Italy to Tunis (TUN).

They were both extremely surprised when someone on the plane said the flight was going to Tunis, so they anxiously Googled to see where Tunis was.

They then asked the flight attendant if the plane was actually going to Nice, France, but the flight attendant replied, "No."

Dzialo then pointed to her ticket, showing that it said "Tunis" and not "Nice." She asked another woman on the plane where Tunisia was, and was told: "North Africa."

In a follow-up video, Dzialo explained that the reservationist may have misheard and booked them a flight to Tunis, Africa instead of Nice, France. The agent likely mistook "to Nice" for "Tunis," due to the similar pronunciation.

Upon entering the plane and discovering the different itinerary, the two wanted to return to the airport but the crew convinced them to return to their seats, assuring them that Nice would be the next flight.

The problem was, they didn't actually have tickets to Nice, so they shrugged and stayed put.

After landing and going through several frantic conversations with flight attendants at Tunis airport, the two finally bought tickets back to Nice, France.

In another video, Dzialo filmed the two arriving at Nice airport the following day.

In an article published in the New York Post, one reader commented: "Honestly, of all the places in Africa you could go, Tunis is the closest to Nice." The flight from Nice to Tunis is 1 hour and 30 minutes, a distance of 800 km. Supporting this comment, another suggested why the two female tourists did not stay and explore Tunis but immediately returned.

But many people also criticized the female tourist for not carefully checking her ticket before flying.

In one case of getting on the wrong flight, two best friends, Lynne Mazouz and Kira Smith, thought they had booked a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica - but their trip ended up in San Jose, California.

From Nice to Tunis, and from Costa Rica to California - obviously, the first rule of travel is to always double-check your geographical location and airline tickets before taking off.
