EVNCPC proactively ensures electricity supply during hot season

(Chinhphu.vn) - In the face of prolonged hot weather and high electricity load, the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) has synchronously deployed many solutions to ensure safe, continuous and stable electricity supply to serve production, people's daily life and socio-economic activities in the Central Highlands - Central region.

The Central Highlands is entering the peak of the dry season with extremely hot weather, many places recording temperatures exceeding 38°C. The prolonged heat has caused a sudden increase in electricity demand. In the first 5 months of 2025, EVNCPC's total commercial electricity output reached 10,649.89 million kWh, an increase of 3.38% over the same period last year; the maximum capacity reached 4,072.5 MW, an increase of 1.36% compared to the maximum capacity in 2024.

To ensure electricity supply for people's life and production, EVNCPC has implemented urgent and long-term solutions synchronously. Specifically, for repair and maintenance work, EVNCPC requires units to carefully review plans, arrange reasonable construction time and strictly comply with the announced power restoration time.

Member Power Companies increase their on-duty forces, prepare adequate supplies and spare equipment, and be ready to quickly handle any incident situation, minimizing the duration of power outages. When an incident occurs, the operation must have the direct participation of the Power Director, the Team Leader of the Grid Operation Management Team, and technical, dispatching, and safety departments to ensure effective handling and absolute safety for workers.

EVNCPC also increases regular inspections of power lines and transformer stations; measures temperatures at contact points of high-load equipment to detect early signs of abnormal heat generation, limiting the risk of incidents. Power lines, low-voltage lines, circuit breakers, connections, etc. are all regularly inspected to proactively prevent situations of unusually high load during peak hot days.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Khanh, Deputy General Director, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee for Electricity Supply of EVNCPC said: "Ensuring electricity supply is the top priority task. EVNCPC focuses on both investment in building grid infrastructure, technical management and load operation in a synchronous and effective manner".

To flexibly respond to load and weather developments, EVNCPC has established a Steering Committee for Power Supply in 2025, headed by the General Director. Member Power Companies also established their own Steering Committees. Heads of units are directly responsible for managing and comprehensively implementing solutions, especially in extreme and unpredictable weather situations.

Units closely monitor hydrometeorological forecasts, assess the growth rate of load for each customer group and the ability of local power sources to promptly adjust operating plans. EVNCPC also promotes research, innovation, application of information technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation solutions in operation management, repair and maintenance of equipment.

Specifically, EVNCPC has applied condition-based maintenance (CBM), reliability-based maintenance (RCM) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods in maintenance and repair work. Thereby, the quality and efficiency of work are improved, equipment operates more safely and the risk of incidents is minimized.

EVNCPC directed units to make detailed monthly and yearly operation plans, focusing on the dry season months and times when the load is at risk of sudden increase. At the same time, units closely coordinate with the local Department of Industry and Trade to report on power supply plans, promptly receiving necessary support from the government.

For customers, EVNCPC actively promotes the use of electricity economically, encouraging load shifting outside of peak hours. For large customers, the Power Companies directly work to sign an addendum to the contract to participate in the voluntary non-commercial load adjustment (DR) program, in order to reduce pressure on the power system during peak hours.

Accordingly, for industrial - construction customers with output of over 1 million kWh/year, 1,054 customers have signed agreements, reaching 100%, with the potential to shift loads up to 95.91 MW. The DR program has had 1,827 customers signing agreements to participate, reaching 100%, with the total potential adjusted capacity up to 335 MW.

Along with that, EVNCPC cooperated with local authorities to widely propagate to each residential group, enterprise and household about using electricity economically and effectively. Employees of the electricity sector set an example in saving electricity at their offices and homes, especially during the hottest months such as May, June and July.
