Robusta supplies are now scarce as exports from Vietnam slow, adding to the global coffee market's tension and supporting rising prices, experts say.

According to the ICO report, global coffee exports in September increased by 24.9% compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of more than 10.7 million bags. At the end of the 2023-2024 crop year (October 2023 to September 2024), total global coffee exports increased by 11.7% compared to the previous crop year, reaching a record 137.3 million bags.

Coffee prices continued to rally this week with Arabica hitting a seven-week high. Brazilian coffee buyers are withholding coffee from the market in hopes of higher prices, tightening the cash market and boosting prices.

In the Vietnamese market, coffee growers in the Central Highlands provinces are currently entering the 2024 harvest season. At present, coffee prices are high, so farmers are very excited.

Many farmers in Dak Lak said that in the 2024 coffee crop, most of the coffee area was heavily affected by the drought, so the fruiting was uneven, leading to a decrease in output. However, coffee is currently being purchased at high prices, which also compensates for the low output.
