People choose to buy green vegetables at Nam Son market (Nam Son ward). |
According to some traders, the main reason for the sharp increase in vegetable prices is the impact of many prolonged heavy rains that flooded vegetable growing areas in the province and other localities in the North, causing vegetables and tubers to spoil, so the supply has decreased significantly. Along with that is the difficulty in harvesting and transporting; at supermarkets, leafy vegetables have to be transported from Moc Chau, Sa Pa, Da Lat to meet the supply. In addition, people's demand during the National Day holiday on September 2 and the 15th of July is also higher, so the price of green vegetables has increased accordingly...
The increase in vegetable prices has forced many households to change their menus. Instead of buying fresh vegetables every day, many people choose vegetables and fruits that do not spoil quickly, such as squash, chayote, carrots, or take advantage of growing vegetables to be somewhat "self-sufficient". Ms. Le Thi Huong (Nam Son ward) was choosing to buy vegetables and said: "The sharp increase in vegetable prices has significantly increased the cost of living. There are vegetables that we used to eat regularly, but now we have to consider carefully when buying them."
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture , the high price of vegetables and tubers due to the shortage of supply is only temporary, so farmers are advised to be cautious in production, not to expand the planting area massively, which can easily lead to the situation of "good harvest, low price" when the supply is abundant again. At the same time, it is necessary to research the market, choose suitable varieties for cultivation and promote production linkages to ensure product output.
