Call dad 'brother', force dad to participate in adventurous challenge

MC Lai Van Sam's only son is Lai Bac Hai Dang, a famous director of VTV. Lai Bac Hai Dang was born in 1979 and is a former student of the Academy of Journalism and Communication.

Lai Van Sam once shared that since childhood, his son was interested in his father's profession: "When he was only in 9th grade, he started to like this profession and decided to take the university entrance exam for Journalism. I don't teach my son how to do this or that, but when I do programs like 'SV' or 'Inter-provincial Games', I always drag him along. When he goes along and participates, he will automatically like it."

Lai Bac Hai Dang started working at VTV as a host of the Fairy Garden program. In 2007, he became known as a television director in the Golden Bell program.

Up to now, his name has been "guaranteed" through a series of programs: Do Re Mi, Who is a millionaire, The Voice Kids, Seventh Wish...

MC Lai Van Sam once said that Lai Bac Hai Dang suffered many disadvantages as the son of a "big shot" in the television industry: "If he were not my son, he would have been promoted a long time ago. I say this very honestly. I never consider myself to be anything formidable, but I still say that if he were not my son, he would have gone far. He is a very good kid."

Because they work together at VTV, MC Lai Van Sam and his son have often cooperated with each other. To ensure the work is objective and smooth, they agree to call each other "brother - sister" when they come to the office.

Lai Bac Hai Dang once commented about his special colleague: "Mr. Sam is a very professional MC. When filming a program that I am the director of, he listens to me completely. I am ready to remind him when the MC does something wrong or is late...

Once filming is finished, he returns to his position as 'Producer in Charge' and gives feedback on what worked and what didn't. Then I have to accept it and comply."

Most recently, the father and son collaborated on the program Co Hen Cung Thanh Xuan. Lai Van Sam was a guest, having to complete the challenges given by the program; and Lai Bac Hai Dang was the main person in charge of the program.

Although his son is the "boss" of the show, MC Lai Van Sam has had to accept difficult challenges many times without any priority. For example, in episode 2, even though he knew his father could not drive, Lai Bac Hai Dang still included the challenge of driving an off-road vehicle over sand dunes in the show.

MC Lai Van Sam did not want to do this challenge so he tried to "negotiate" with his partner but was unsuccessful. He asked to meet directly with the person in charge of the program.

But Lai Bac Hai Dang did not give in to his famous father and convinced him that this challenge was based on a true story about an old man who overcame his limits, learned to drive at an old age and inspired young audiences. So MC Lai Van Sam had to accept the challenge.

Sharing about "forcing" his father to participate in a challenging program for his age, Lai Bac Hai Dang wrote: "From another perspective, I am taking you to school, a class that reviews your youth and as you admit: It turns out you learned many things for the first time. Thank you, your youth, for inspiring my determination."

In episode 3, Lai Bac Hai Dang once again gave his father a "cross-the-limit" challenge. Although Lai Van Sam is a veteran MC who has participated in many TV shows, he has never performed in front of a crowd. The challenge for him is to bring a fun and meaningful musical night to Hope School students - children who lost loved ones in the COVID-19 pandemic. He accepted to participate in the musical with Hong Dao and Hong Van.

People's Artist Hong Van was also very surprised when her close brother agreed to participate in this challenge: "I have to praise Mr. Sam, he is a very shy person. He has never acted in a play in his entire life."

The fact that Lai Bac Hai Dang is not afraid to give his famous father "tough" challenges and the veteran MC is willing to accept them shows that there is a deep understanding between father and son and they are very "fair" in work. Therefore, despite the huge "shadow" of his father, Lai Bac Hai Dang still asserts himself, becoming a name in the television industry.
