These days, the Tai Ly garden of Mr. Pham Duc Tai's family (Me Linh commune) is always bustling with customers coming in and out to buy flowers for Tet. This year's Tet, the garden plans to supply the market with more than 500 pots of ornamental flowers and bonsai flowers. The price of each flower pot is advertised by the garden owner from several hundred thousand dong to several million dong, even some bonsai rose trees cost tens of millions of dong.

Mr. Pham Duc Tai shared: “Having been involved in the flower growing profession for many years, I understand the characteristics of each type to proactively take care of it. About 45 days before Tet, I focus on pruning branches, shaping, removing secondary buds and adjusting the shading net to provide enough light for the flower plants. It is expected that during the 2025 Lunar New Year, this flower garden will bring in a profit of more than 300 million VND for the family.”

The main roads leading to Tich Loc commune (Phuc Tho district) are always bustling with customers buying Tet flowers. Gardeners compete to display their most beautiful products in easy-to-observe locations for buyers to freely admire and choose.

Mr. Kieu Binh Thanh, owner of two large flower gardens in Tich Loc commune, said that up to this point, his family has sold 50% of the flowers prepared for Tet. Compared to last year, it was not until the 27th, 28th, and 29th of Tet that there were many customers, but this year, people bought flowers earlier and in larger numbers. This Tet, Mr. Thanh's family brought to the market more than 200,000 with many types of decorative flowers and carpet flowers such as: gerbera, chrysanthemum, dahlia, primrose...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (Residential Group No. 2, Tay Tuu Ward) planted 3 sao of dahlias and violets. She said that this year, due to the impact of storm No. 3, many flower garden owners have urgently planted. The advantage is that the weather has been quite favorable in the past months, helping the flowers grow and develop well. This season, the flowers are beautiful and sell well, so her family has a good income. However, to have a field of flowers in season, flower growers must stay awake and sleep with the flowers, closely following the unusual weather developments to avoid missing a beat and losing the crop.

Variety of products, slight price increase

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tich Loc Commune, Do Nghia, said that the commune currently has nearly 200 hectares of flowers and ornamental plants. This year, the average price of flowers is higher than last year. Notably, the commune has many models of growing lilies and trumpet lilies with an income of 1.5 - 1.7 billion VND/ha; the chrysanthemum model with an income of about 1 billion VND/ha; carpet flowers and decorative flowers with an income of 1 - 1.5 billion VND/ha in just 3 months. Some gardeners even have an income during Tet of 300 - 500 million VND, some households earn billions of VND.

According to the leader of Tay Tuu Ward People's Committee, along with growing common flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, lilies, gladiolus... many households have boldly invested capital, grown new flower varieties, applied high technology in production, bringing high economic value, and are favored by the market. Tay Tuu is in the process of urbanizing flowers, therefore, to maintain and develop the traditional flower growing profession, Bac Tu Liem District and Hanoi City have planned Tay Tuu into a high-quality flower growing area, providing fresh flowers for the capital and neighboring localities.

Market research shows that currently, many shop owners have imported flowers and ornamental plants to sell for Tet. According to a survey by reporters of Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper, people come to visit and shop at the flower market and Tet flower display area quite crowded. The quantity of flowers and ornamental plants is updated every day, with a variety of designs and models from potted plants, hanging baskets, table plants, hydroponic plants, etc., attracting many customers. This year, the prices of all kinds of flowers have increased compared to previous years. Many types of flowers such as kumquat, peach, lily, etc. are in short supply.

Assessing the flower market for the Lunar New Year 2025, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai said that the prices of many types of flowers and ornamental plants this year have increased compared to last year, due to the supply of many types of flowers being affected by rain and storms. However, the market supply is also quite diverse, so people have many different choices.

Previously, the capital's agricultural sector had proactively surveyed flower growing areas and directed the restoration of production. For flowers and ornamental plants that could not be planted in time, other flowers and ornamental plants were planted instead. The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also coordinated with departments, sectors and localities to promote the consumption of flowers and ornamental plants during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

The Hanoi People's Committee has directed the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, and People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities to organize 70 spring flower markets from January 8, 2025 (December 9) to 8:00 p.m. on January 28, 2025 (December 29). Products on display include flowers, trees, ornamental fruits, handicrafts, and products for the Lunar New Year.
