Two days of penalties under Decree 168, more than 4,000 driving licenses were revoked

According to information from the Traffic Police Department, in just 2 days since Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP regulating administrative penalties for violations in the field of road traffic, deduction of points, and restoration of driving license points came into effect (January 1 and 2, 2025), local police inspected, detected, and handled 25,079 violations; detained 169 cars, 8,147 motorbikes, and 245 other vehicles; and revoked 4,261 driving licenses of all types.

Of which, there were 6,079 violations of alcohol concentration; 5,405 violations of speed; 515 cases of overloading; 60 cases of exceeding the size limit; 60 cases of drug violations; 682 cases of not obeying traffic light signals; 2,808 cases of not wearing helmets...

Decree 168 stipulates increased penalties for a number of groups of behaviors and violations, mainly intentional errors, which are highly dangerous and direct causes of traffic accidents.

For example, the driver of a car who fails to comply with traffic lights or goes the wrong way on a one-way street will be fined VND18-20 million. For the same behavior, the driver of a motorbike will be fined VND4-6 million.

Violating alcohol concentration exceeding 50mg-80mg/100ml of blood or exceeding 0.25mg-0.4mg/1 liter of breath... car drivers will be fined from 18-20 million VND, and motorbike drivers will be fined from 6-8 million VND.

Notably, if a car driver weaves, speeds, or chases another on the road, he or she will be fined up to 40-50 million VND; if a motorbike driver weaves, speeds, or chases another on the road, he or she will be fined 8-10 million VND.
