Airlines increase flights, Russian visitors to Khanh Hoa increase dramatically

With more direct flights and reasonable costs, Khanh Hoa has become a favorite destination for Russian tourists.

On September 15, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province announced that the number of Russian visitors to the province in the first 8 months of 2025 reached an impressive number, with 279,000 arrivals, an increase of 294.9% compared to 2024. Explaining this, Mr. Pham Minh Nhut, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Tourism Association shared: "The increase in the number of Russian visitors is mainly due to airlines reopening many direct flights from Russia to Cam Ranh. In addition, travel costs in Khanh Hoa are quite reasonable compared to many other destinations, along with the attraction of cuisine and favorable weather." This figure shows the strong recovery of the Russian tourist market after a period of stagnation, making Russia one of the most prosperous international tourist markets in the locality.

Currently, there are 30 flights per week from Russian cities to Cam Ranh International Airport. Of these, 26 are charter flights operated by Ikar Airlines, IrAero Airlines, Vietjet Air, Azur Air, RedWings and 4 are commercial flights operated by Aeroflot.

Most recently, Aeroflot launched a direct flight route from Irkutsk to Cam Ranh from September 5 with a frequency of 2 flights/week, which can be increased to 3 flights/week from October 6. Aeroflot will also open additional routes from Yekaterinburg (September 29), Novosibirsk (September 30) and Vladivostok (October 1) to Cam Ranh. In addition, Nordwind will launch flights from Moscow, Ekaterinburg and several other Russian cities to Khanh Hoa in late September and early October.

Ms. Hoang Thi Phong Thu, Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Pegas Misr Vietnam Travel Company Limited, said that Russian airlines and tourism businesses are very interested in Khanh Hoa. Many airlines will increase flights here at the end of the year.

"The value of a trip to Khanh Hoa for Russian tourists is very high compared to the cost, especially when compared to traditional destinations in Europe," explained Mr. Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, CEO of Alma Resort in Bai Dai beach area.

With positive signals about flight routes and interest from Russian tourism businesses, it is likely that 2025 will be the year Khanh Hoa welcomes the number of Russian visitors surpassing the peak of 2019 (in 2019, Khanh Hoa welcomed about 463,000 Russian visitors). Attracting Russian visitors brings many economic benefits because they often stay for a long time (15 - 30 days) and are classified as "loyal customers", often returning to Khanh Hoa.

Mr. Cung Quynh Anh, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the positive results of Khanh Hoa tourism come from the Government's open visa policies; the strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee in implementing tourism tasks. The provincial tourism industry has also made efforts to effectively implement promotion programs to attract international visitors, innovate and diversify the system of products and services to enhance the attractiveness of Khanh Hoa tourism, and build a healthy and professional tourism business environment.

Mr. Truong Van Tien, Director of Khanh Hoa Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, informed that in the coming time, the province will step up tourism promotion in the markets of Korea, China, and European countries; welcome famtrip tourism groups from China and Taiwan (China) to survey Khanh Hoa tourism; organize solemn receptions for large tourist groups arriving by plane, ship and train to aim for the goal of reaching about 5.4 million international visitors in 2025.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa, in the first 8 months of the year, the total number of tourists to this locality reached more than 12.8 million, an increase of 15.6% over the same period in 2024 and reaching 81.5% of the plan for 2025. Total revenue from tourists in the first 8 months reached 50,585.6 billion VND, an increase of 17.8% over the same period and reaching 76.1% of the yearly plan.
