Located about 16km from Cua Dai beach, Cu Lao Cham is not only famous as a beautiful and romantic tourist destination but also known for its distinctive bird's nest brand. This is also the place where there is a 150-year-old bird's nest ancestral temple that has been preserved and burned with incense by many generations of people.

Every year on the 10th day of the third lunar month, people gather to offer incense to their ancestors who have contributed to the exploitation of bird's nests, expressing gratitude to their ancestors who created and preserved the profession through the ups and downs of history.

At the bird's nest ancestor temple on the morning of April 7 (March 10 of the lunar calendar), Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long - owner of Long Mai Bird's Nest establishment (Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan) said that this was the fourth time he had come to the island to attend the bird's nest ancestor's death anniversary. According to Mr. Long, fate had brought his family to the bird's nest profession, so he always respected and was grateful to those who had created the profession.

Mr. Long's family currently has a ^500m2 bird's nest house and sells many products made from bird's nest to the market.

According to Mr. Tran Phuoc Sy - Director of Tien Sa Bird's Nest Company (Da Nang), Chairman of Quang Da Bird's Nest Association, attending the death anniversary of the bird's nest profession is not simply a trip but also contains spiritual values that make his soul peaceful. Therefore, it seems that every year he organizes for businesses and bird's nest houses everywhere to come and pay tribute to the profession's ancestors.

“This profession has given me many opportunities and helped me improve my life, so I always remember to be grateful to my ancestors. Therefore, every year on the anniversary of my ancestors, no matter how busy I am, I try to arrange to go to the island,” Mr. Sy said.

Mr. Doan Le Ngoc Phi Lan said that the bird's nest material area of Cu Lao Cham island is of very high quality, even number 1 in Vietnam; especially traditional, with a long history and Cu Lao Cham is considered a sacred ancestral land.

"I believe that if we have the support of our ancestors, we must be more dedicated in production and business to not be ashamed of our ancestors. Surely, our ancestors will also protect and support our business to develop and fly far," Mr. Lan added.

The death anniversary of the bird's nest profession is held on the 9th and 10th of the third lunar month every year at the ancestral temple in Bai Huong village, Tan Hiep island commune - Cu Lao Cham (Hoi An city). This is a temple built in the 19th century to worship the founder of the bird's nest profession and the gods who protect the profession.
