VTC NewsVTC News24/09/2024

According to relics and old documents kept in village communal houses and Vietnamese ethnic museums, the Dau family has the same origin and comes from the Do family. Due to pronunciation differences between regions, over time there have been different names.

According to the book Do Family of Vietnam, this family lineage existed and was associated with the birthplace of the ancient Vietnamese people at least 5,000-6,000 years ago, before the founding of the first country with the national name Van Lang and before the establishment of the first Hung King.

The first Vietnamese person with the surname Do in our country's history was known as Mrs. Do Ngoan (Princess Doan Trang), commonly known as Do Quy Thi.

The Do (Dau) family is one of the largest families in Vietnam, with a long history.

The Do (Dau) family is one of the largest families in Vietnam, with a long history.

According to legend, Do Quy Thi was the daughter of Long Do Hai Vuong, who ruled over the To Lich River estuary, Nghi Tam area, Hanoi . Long Do is one of the three tutelary deities of Thang Long, Hanoi (also known as the Bach Ma God), worshiped at Tan Khai communal house on Hang Vai street, Bach Ma temple, Hang Buom street and many other places in Hanoi.

Do Quy Thi has 8 younger brothers: Do Xuong, Do Tieu, Do Ky, Do Cuong, Do Chuong, Do Dung, Do Bich, Do Trong.

Her husband was Nguyen Minh Khiet (King De Minh), who gave birth to a son named Loc Tuc. However, not long after, due to a disagreement with her husband, she took her son to become a monk in Dong Tien (Lac Thuy district, Hoa Binh province today).

Do Quy Thi and her eight younger brothers wholeheartedly raised Loc Tuc to adulthood, until King De Minh handed over the power to rule the country, took the title Kinh Duong Vuong, and named the country Xich Quy.

After her death, Do Quy Thi was worshiped at Van La Pagoda (Van Khe, Ha Dong, Hanoi).

Nowadays, the Do family in Vietnam has developed into a large community, settling in most localities in the country. Up to now, the book "Do Family in Vietnam" has collected and briefly introduced the history of about 320 branches of the Do family in villages and communes (including 124 branches in Nghe An, Ha Tinh , Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City and many localities in the Southern region called the Dau family).

According to a historian from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences , the Do and Dau families are considered to be of the same lineage. The Do family is concentrated in the northern provinces, while the Dau family appears in the central and southern regions.

"Some localities often pronounce the letter 'đ' with a very heavy accent - 'đờ' becomes ' độ', which over time becomes 'đậu'," he added.
