On the morning of January 26, more than 270 grade 5 students of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) participated in the Math Festival with the theme "Circles around me". This is one of the activities to consolidate knowledge for students in the form of creative experiences, creating a joyful learning environment.

The festival is designed with many learning stations. Students take turns performing tasks at each station to receive gifts and stamps confirming the completion of the learning task.

Duy Khang, a student in class 5/1, said he has participated in experiential activities in many other subjects, but this is the first time he has participated in Math.

"Math knowledge is dry with many formulas and calculations, but when combined with games, I find everything easy to understand, easy to remember, and class time is much more fun," Duy Khang expressed.

Similarly, for Gia Han, a 5/6 grader, math was previously a subject taught in books. By performing concrete tasks such as measuring the radius of a brick or the sides of a flower pot in the school yard, she has better understood the connection between math and life.

In particular, the festival also had the participation of parents. Ms. Le Vu Minh Ngoc, a parent of a student in class 5/7, expressed that learning in the form of experience in the school yard helps children practice behavioral skills, the learning space is expanded not only within the scope of a classroom but also the whole grade, creating a more exciting atmosphere.

Mr. Tran Trong Thinh, deputy head of grade 5, Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, shared that the festival aims to consolidate knowledge for students, thereby creating opportunities for students to experience applying knowledge in practice.

"The geometry topic of circles has many practical applications. Therefore, the school has organized close learning activities to help students connect the knowledge learned in the program with real life such as measuring the perimeter of a chess board, the perimeter of a brick square in the school yard, the wall of a flower pot...", said Mr. Thinh.

This teacher said that the application question in the textbook required students to calculate the perimeter of a well. From that requirement, the subject group changed the "subject" to a flower pot to make it more familiar to students.

Similarly, with the requirement to calculate the perimeter of a mixed shape (a combination of a semicircle and a square or rectangle), teachers have creatively created a requirement to calculate the perimeter of a checkers board to help students easily understand and relate to reality.

Ms. Do Ngoc Chi, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, said that through experiential activities, students are trained in observation skills, find new learning methods, and contribute to developing students' creativity.
