On August 3, information from the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital said that this unit had just received and treated a 54-year-old female patient who was hospitalized due to a large fish bone stuck in her throat.

Accordingly, information said that a few days ago, Ms. LTT (residing in Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh ) after eating fish accidentally got a fish bone stuck in her throat and was taken to the hospital by her family in a state of neck pain and difficulty swallowing.

Quang Ninh University of Technology fell down a large fish and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.

Through examination and CT scan results of the cervical spine, a foreign object was detected in the esophagus. After consultation, the patient was ordered to have an endoscopy to remove the foreign object. The doctors performed an endoscopy and discovered a sharp foreign object in the esophagus, 20cm from the anterior dental arch, with scratches on the surface of the esophageal mucosa. The foreign object was removed and was a piece of fish bone measuring about 2.5x3cm with many sharp edges.

Doctor Do Quang Ut, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital), said that foreign objects in the digestive tract while eating are often fish bones or other foreign objects such as toothpicks, bamboo, pill packaging, etc.

Foreign objects often get stuck in the esophagus, so they are very dangerous and need to be treated promptly, otherwise they will leave many serious complications. To prevent foreign objects in the esophagus or bone stuck in the throat, people should practice the habit of eating slowly and chewing thoroughly; limit talking and joking while eating; be careful with meat and fish that have not been deboned or sharp fruits with large seeds.

To avoid choking on bones, people should also be careful when preparing food, removing bones before feeding children and the elderly, choosing soft foods, and paying attention when eating and drinking.
