Remote consultation saves Russian tourist bitten by red-tailed green pit viper

On the evening of November 8, Mr. Huynh Van Khai, Director of SOS Phu Quoc Clinic ( Kien Giang ), said that the clinic's doctors had just saved a 44-year-old Russian male tourist who was bitten by a red-tailed green pit viper.

Accordingly, at around 6pm the same day, this tourist went to find a restaurant in Ong Lang hamlet, Cua Duong commune, Phu Quoc city, to have dinner when something bit his leg. About 15 seconds later, he felt dizzy so he went to SOS Phu Quoc Clinic for a check-up.

Upon arrival, the victim showed signs of swelling in the bite area despite a tourniquet, and his body temperature rose to 38 degrees Celsius.   and feel short of breath.

Because the victim had different symptoms and a fever, the medical team had to consult remotely with Dr. Le Van Tam at Dong Tam Snake Farm ( Tien Giang ) to determine the species of snake that bit the victim.

After examining the bite and symptoms, doctors determined the victim was bitten by a red-tailed green pit viper.

The doctors then let the victim relax and let his body temperature return to normal, then conducted a drug test and injected 3 doses of snake antivenom serum. At the same time, the patient was kept in the clinic for further monitoring.
