More than 30 years "shouldering" village work

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - "Wherever there is poverty, call for volunteers/ Carrying cans of water and rice to wade across the fields/ Wherever there is a frontline, call for you/ With guns and flags in hand, attack again!". That was the conclusion of the speech of Party cell secretary, head of the Front Work Committee of Dong Thinh village, Hoang Loc commune, Bui Duc Thuan (born in 1956) at the Congress of Delegates of the Hoang Loc commune Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term. He borrowed these words from four verses of poet To Huu, like a heartfelt message that touched the hearts of many people.

Moved by the profound speech of an elderly party member with many years of Party experience at the congress, I sought out and met Mr. Thuan at the Dong Thinh village cultural house. Looking at his simple appearance, his face was deeply wrinkled, but when he spoke, his eyes were steadfast and lively, his voice was warm, slow, and full of persuasion.

Mr. Thuan spent 14 years in the military environment. In 1989, he retired as a sick soldier, but his love and responsibility for his homeland always urged him. In 1992, with the trust of the people, he began to work as a village chief. Since then, the "fate" has lasted for more than 30 years, through positions such as village chief, village party cell secretary, head of the village front work committee... In any role, and in difficult times or the current development stage, he has always been dedicated, responsible, and devoted to the common work. For him, it is not only the duty of a party member, but also a debt of gratitude to the land that gave birth to and raised him.

Sitting and chatting with us, Mr. Thuan humbly admitted that he was "old and had limited qualifications", but through the stories he told, we could clearly see the sharpness and sense of responsibility of a party member who understands every lifestyle, path, and step of development of his homeland.

"Party members must be connected to the people, and to be connected, they must listen and know what the people are thinking and needing. After more than 30 years of working in the village, the most valuable thing for me is to be trusted by the people and given important responsibilities. And to do that, I must be exemplary, honest, and straightforward. What I say is what I do, and what I do must be done thoroughly," said Mr. Thuan.

He believes that to build a strong community, one must rely on the strength of the people. If people believe, no matter how difficult the task is, they can do it, but if people lose faith, even the smallest task cannot be done. With that idea, the Party cell and the village front work committee have taken advantage of the State's support resources, at the same time aroused the solidarity strength from the people, mobilized children far from home, and philanthropists to contribute to building cultural houses, roads, sports grounds, renovating the village pond, building drainage systems, planting new coconut trees...

Thanks to the consensus of the people, in 2022 Dong Thinh village completed the construction of a model new rural village. Behind that achievement are the contributions of many people and also his great mark. However, he never takes credit for himself.

Hoang Loc is a hometown rich in revolutionary tradition, culture and love of learning, which has long been the pride of the people here. In the commune, there are 13 historical-cultural relics that have been ranked, including 3 national relics and 10 provincial relics. However, Mr. Thuan said that preserving relics is not just about restoring walls, but more importantly, preserving memories, educating traditions, and connecting generations. As the head of the Party cell and the Front's working committee, he has coordinated with organizations to organize traditional education activities associated with historical sites, combining Party cell and organization activities with "returning to the source" activities, building green, clean and beautiful roads, associated with the new rural landscape, preserving the relic grounds... Village covenants and conventions are adjusted in accordance with the law and the new situation, aiming to build a civilized lifestyle, preserving the traditions and customs of the homeland.

In his story, he mentioned many concerns and wishes on how to make the commune's loudspeaker system more modern, to serve public administration more smoothly and quickly so that people would not be bothered, how to completely resolve temporary markets and flea markets, and ensure traffic safety. He and the Party cell cherished plans and projects to maintain and improve the quality of the criteria for model new-style rural villages, and to find sources of stimulus so that the Party cell could start mobilizing people to contribute asphalt to some more hamlet roads, to make traffic more synchronous, clean and sustainable.

The story of Mr. Thuan is not only the story of an individual, but also a vivid lesson about the dedication, understanding and responsibility of grassroots cadres - the "glue" that binds the people together, creating endogenous strength to build and develop the homeland.
