Steering Committee Meeting for the Implementation of Ban Mong Reservoir Project Phase 1, Nghe An Province

On the morning of October 23, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held an online meeting of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the Ban Mong Reservoir Project Phase 1, Nghe An Province, to assess the current situation and progress of implementation. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep chaired the meeting.

The Ban Mong Reservoir Project is built on the Hieu River, with a reservoir area of ​​25km2, mainly located in the districts of Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Nghia Dan, Nghe An province and partly in Nhu Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province. The main project is located in Yen Hop commune, Quy Hop district.

Ban Mong Reservoir Project Phase 1, Nghe An Province has a capacity of 225 million m3, 8 water pumping stations along Hieu River and a 45MW hydropower plant. Phase 1 of the project has a total estimated investment of VND 5,552 billion, allocated from the State budget.

In 2010, the project was started, with the Irrigation Construction and Investment Management Board 4 as the investor of the main works cluster and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An as the investor of the compensation, support and resettlement component. Currently, the main works cluster is 96% completed, the remaining volume of the project is site clearance work.

Regarding the adjustment of the component project, the deadline is October 31, 2024, but the most difficult issue is the adjustment of Chau Binh canal. This is considered the key basis for implementing the next steps. Therefore, Nghe An province recommends that there should be a reasonable design adjustment plan for the construction of Chau Binh canal to ensure safety after blocking the main project. The work that must continue is to handle the problem of 46 hectares of forest and relocate some households in Binh Quang village, 400 graves behind the auxiliary dam; complete the reforestation work to replace the remaining area of ​​184.64/544.77 hectares.

Based on the proposal of Nghe An province and related units, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will study, consider and promptly resolve the existing problems and difficulties in the construction of the Ban Mong Reservoir project, phase 1, Nghe An province. The phase 1 project will be completed before December 31, 2025.
