Cooperate to form a set of standards and regulations on smart cities

On the afternoon of September 25, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received a working delegation from the World's Leading Scientists Development Organization in Shanghai, China.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ngo Huong Dong, Chairman of the World Leading Scientists Development Foundation in Shanghai (WLA Development Foundation) expressed his respect and thanks to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung for taking the time to receive and work with the delegation; at the same time, proposed a number of cooperation contents in building orientations for smart urban development in the coming period, smart urban planning, human resource training, standardization of standards and assessment indexes, technology solutions... In addition, WLA Development Foundation also hopes to establish a cooperation channel and cooperation mechanism between the two sides on smart cities.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung welcomed the World's Leading Scientists Development Organization in Shanghai; at the same time, he said that smart cities are a new field but play an important role in the urbanization process of Vietnam. The Government is focusing on discussing and implementing it.

Regarding cooperation between the two sides, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the general principle of sharing experience in China's development process, helping Vietnam gain knowledge and good experience to shorten the process of building smart cities.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the ultimate goal is to develop rapidly and sustainably, taking advantage of the achievements of the digital economy for urban development. Vietnam also aims to develop a digital economy based on a digital platform and by 2030, the digital economy must contribute 30% of GDP.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation on institutions and legal corridors, first of all in the development of a Decree on smart urban development. Next is the formation of strategies, standards and regulations on smart cities.

Encouraging the Shanghai-based World Scientists Development Organization to support Vietnam in training human resources, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that trained human resources include officials and experts at central and local management agencies and must be deployed to the right subjects, with the right content and components, bringing about practical and effective results.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to be the focal point for signing the MOU with the World's Leading Scientists Development Organization in Shanghai to serve as a basis for implementation, supervision, and close coordination with each other.
