Thoai Son district, An Giang province was recognized by the Prime Minister as meeting advanced new rural standards.

On the morning of August 2, information from the People's Committee of Thoai Son district ( An Giang province), on August 1, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Decision No. 750/QD-TTg, dated August 1, 2024, recognizing Thoai Son district, An Giang province to meet advanced new rural standards in 2023.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the People's Committee of An Giang province to be responsible for announcing and rewarding according to regulations; directed the People's Committee of Thoai Son district to continue maintaining and improving the quality of criteria, focusing on production and environmental criteria to ensure sustainability in new rural construction.

Thoai Son district is located in the south of An Giang province in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, with a natural area of ​​47,103.8 hectares, accounting for 13.32% of the province's natural area, and is the second largest district in the province.

Thoai Son district has 17 commune-level administrative units including 14 communes and 3 towns. In 2018, Thoai Son district was honored to be the first district in An Giang province to achieve the new rural district standard (1 year ahead of schedule). Up to now, the district has had 14/14 communes achieving the advanced new rural commune standard, 2 model new rural communes, and 3 towns achieving the civilized urban standard.

14/14 communes in the district have had their general planning project for commune construction until 2040 approved by the People's Committee of Thoai Son district and detailed construction project at a scale of 1/500 for commune centers or detailed construction planning at a scale of 1/500 for residential area projects in the communes in accordance with the local socio-economic situation and in accordance with the urbanization orientation according to the planning of the district and the province.

Thoai Son district has 1 National Highway 80 running through it with a length of 1.2km; 3 provincial roads (DT943, DT960, DT947) running through it with a total length of 61.9km; 12 district roads with a total length of 144.3km, 100% asphalted, ensuring convenient car travel all year round and connecting from the district center to the administrative centers of the communes. 100% of district roads are maintained annually.

Hamlet roads and inter-hamlet roads in the area are asphalted or concreted and maintained annually; have necessary items according to regulations (signs, directional signs, lighting, speed bumps, trees, etc.) and ensure bright - green - clean - beautiful, meeting technical standards. Up to now, alley and hamlet roads have been hardened and ensured bright - green - clean - beautiful.

The total product in the area in 2023 increased by 6.8% over the previous year. In the general growth rate, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 5.62%; industry - construction increased by 7.32%; and the service sector increased by 8%.

The economic structure of Thoai Son district in 2023 continues to shift in a positive direction: Agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 46.15%, industry - construction accounts for 19.16% and trade - services account for 34.69%.

In particular, agricultural production has had a strong transformation of crop and livestock structure; development of small-scale industries, trade, services, and tourism has also gradually developed; large enterprises have been attracted to production, attracting about 10,000 local workers.

Up to now, the average income per capita in the district's rural areas has reached 73.5 million VND/person/year and the average production value/ha of agricultural land has reached 215 million VND/ha, the poverty rate has gradually decreased every year, now down to 1.32%.

Up to now, 14 communes have 27,909/31,766 households with permanent or semi-permanent houses, accounting for 87.86%.
