Israeli army chief of staff Herzi Halevi told soldiers on September 25 that airstrikes in Lebanon were aimed at destroying Hezbollah's infrastructure and paving the way for the possible introduction of ground forces, according to CNN.

The goal of Israel's operation is to help tens of thousands of people return to their homes in the north who were previously displaced by attacks from the north.

That means your footprints will enter enemy territory, into villages where Hezbollah has prepared large military facilities," said Mr. Halevi, confident that the opponent will face a professional, highly skilled and experienced force on the battlefield.

At the meeting, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot unveiled a joint proposal with the US for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon to allow for negotiations. "We expect both sides to accept the proposal without delay, in order to protect civilians and allow diplomatic negotiations to begin," Foreign Minister Barrot said.
