78 years have passed since President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree promulgating pension and allowance regimes for relatives of martyrs, wounded soldiers and sick soldiers, marking the birth of War Invalids and Martyrs Day. Through the ups and downs of history, the cause of national liberation, national reunification, building and defending the Fatherland has been nurtured from the blood and bones, from the silent sacrifices of many generations of fathers and brothers. They are the nation's outstanding children, the heroes and martyrs who have remained forever on the battlefield, the wounded soldiers and sick soldiers who carry the wounds of time and the heroic Vietnamese Mothers who have devoted their lives to the country.

“Every inch of land we live on, every grain of rice we eat, every laugh we share today is soaked with the sweat and blood of those who have fallen. War Invalids and Martyrs Day is a day of commemoration and a constant reminder of the responsibility of today’s generation for the great sacrifices of our ancestors” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay (revolutionary veteran of Long Xuyen City).

In order for historical values and revolutionary traditions not to fade over time, An Giang is implementing many meaningful activities, diverse in form and rich in content. Propaganda and education work on national history and the political significance of War Invalids and Martyrs Day has been promoted, helping generations, especially the youth, better understand the heroic history and great sacrifices of their ancestors. Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province emphasized: "The Party Committee, government and people of An Giang identify the work of "Repaying gratitude" as an important and regular political task and a fine traditional morality of the nation. Therefore, Party committees at all levels, local authorities and units strive to ensure that no meritorious family is left behind, helping their lives become better and better."

In recent times, the Party's policies and the State's laws on preferential treatment for families of martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers and people with meritorious services to the revolution have been implemented by all levels, sectors, localities and units in a correct, sufficient, accurate, timely, fair and transparent manner. Each file and preferential treatment has been carefully reviewed to avoid errors, duplication and backlog.

The movement “The whole people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution” has become a cultural beauty of An Giang. From urban to rural areas, from lowlands to mountainous areas and borders, everywhere we see goodwill and practical actions. Party committees at all levels, authorities, unions, socio-political organizations and the people have devoted much attention, affection and special responsibility to families with meritorious services.

War invalid Trinh Thi Huong (My An 1 hamlet, My Hoa Hung commune) shared: “It has been many years since I returned from the battlefield with my wounds, I have never felt abandoned. The Party and the State, the authorities at all levels from the province to the commune have always cared for us and taken good care of us. On every holiday, especially War Invalids and Martyrs Day, I receive meaningful gifts and thoughtful greetings. It is not only material, but also emotional, a recognition of the merits of those who shed blood for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Thanks to that care, the physical wounds seem to have been somewhat soothed. I am extremely grateful to the Party, grateful to life for not forgetting soldiers like me.”

Strengthening the responsibility of each level and each sector in the "Repaying gratitude" movement is the consistent goal of An Giang. Communes and wards continue to strengthen the work of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services, striving to do a good job of caring for war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services recognized by the Provincial People's Committee. "We pay special attention to taking care of the health, material and spiritual life of families of martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers and people with meritorious services, especially families in difficult circumstances, in remote areas, border areas, ethnic minority areas, and revolutionary base areas. It is not just subsidies, but sincere visits and encouragement, concrete actions to make them feel respected and loved" - Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung affirmed.

In addition, promoting the 2025 Gratitude Fund is also a key task to build Gratitude houses, repair houses, support livelihoods, examine and treat patients for people with meritorious services and their relatives, especially the poor and near-poor.
