According to the reporter's records on February 16 (the 7th day of Lunar New Year), most clothing stores and restaurants in Can Tho City have reopened to serve customers. By noon of the same day, many breakfast restaurants on De Tham Street (Ninh Kieu District) were still crowded with customers, making the traders happy.
"I opened on the 6th day of Tet, opening at the beginning of the year and having so many customers is such a joy, not only me but many other traders are also excited to receive good luck at the beginning of the year.
After Tet, the price of meat and fish has decreased slightly, but the price of some vegetables has increased, making me hesitate to increase the price of breakfast dishes at the shop. However, I still keep it stable to serve the people," said Ms. Anh Phung (owner of a breakfast shop on De Tham Street).
According to Ms. Phung, the reason why the restaurant was crowded on the first days of opening was due to the change in taste after Tet. On the other hand, some people had a long Tet holiday (around the 10th day) which also helped increase the number of customers.
Also selling coffee on De Tham Street, Ms. Sau (Can Tho City) acknowledged that the number of customers on the 6th was somewhat larger than today, but the number of people was still larger than usual, and even improved after Tet 2023.
"In the past few years, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the general economic situation has been difficult, making shops deserted. I also hope that business will be favorable in early 2024 and the end of the year will be smooth.
This year my family will also save money so that in 2025 we can have a happy Tet," Mrs. Hai said with a smile.
Running the last motorbike taxi ride of the day at around 3:30 p.m., Mr. Au Duong (70 years old, Can Tho City) was excited because his first working day after Tet was full of customers. Most of his customers were people going to the market, going out to celebrate Tet and getting medical check-ups at the beginning of the year.
"If before Tet, sometimes I didn't have a single motorbike taxi ride all day, then starting the year with 4 rides is very favorable for me. Today's income, minus gas money, I still earn 150,000 VND.
In general, nowadays, the development of technology-based motorbike taxis combined with the dense traffic means makes people limit using traditional motorbike taxis a lot. I also hope to earn just over 100,000 VND per day to help with household expenses, that would be too happy!", Mr. Duong added.
