Inspired by the motifs on the Nine Urns of the Nguyen Dynasty, a group of authors including art lecturers and students, Bat Trang ceramic artisans and a fashion designer tell the story of Vietnamese heritage.

When feudal sacred symbols are inspiration for contemporary art

More than 130 works in the form of ceramics, wood carvings and fashion such as ao dai and quilted dresses were introduced through the exhibition Echo, with the common inspiration being the heritage story from the Nguyen Dynasty's Nine Urns.

The Nine Tripods or nine bronze cauldrons are considered a symbol of the authority of the feudal government, as the saying goes: “To possess the Nine Tripods is to possess the world.” Ordered to be cast under the reign of King Minh Mang, each bronze cauldron has 17 motifs of entities in the sky; natural resources on the ground; and human products such as weapons, ships, and means of transportation.

All create a comprehensive picture of the country, considered an "encyclopedia" of Vietnam in the early 19th century.

Developing modern art stories based on abundant and available cultural capital is the common trend of artists in Vietnam today. This is a direction that is both sustainable and inspiring for creators, and helps affirm Vietnamese cultural identity in the trend of global development./.
