Beautiful memories of Lao students at Chengdu University

“After my experience at Thanh Do University, the most valuable thing I want to bring back is friendship. I have made many new friends, and I believe that the Vietnam - Laos friendship will last forever like the memories we have created together.”

That is one of the shares of Lao students when completing their experience journey at Thanh Do University in the Vietnam - Laos international student exchange program 2025.

Upholding the spirit of "Friendship - Vietnam - Laos - Sustainable", the 2025 Vietnam - Laos international student exchange trip ended with many beautiful memories in each Lao student and Chengdu student, a journey of experience, connection and harmony.

The series of activities in the Vietnam - Laos Cultural Exchange and International Student Exchange program not only have cultural and national significance but also serve as a bridge for the young generations of the two countries to learn, experience, share and foster traditional friendship.

Diverse experiences, rich in cultural identity, national history and spirit of friendship

During their experience at Chengdu University, Lao students participated in a variety of activities, containing the spirit of culture, history, and the close relationship between the two nations, bringing the breath of the times. The series of experiential activities brought a joyful and creative space, an opportunity for students from both countries to have a deeper understanding of the culture, people and strengthen the traditional friendship between the two nations of Vietnam and Laos.

From activities that explore the cultural characteristics of Vietnam through famous tourist attractions, to activities that strongly promote the spirit of exchange between students of the two countries such as drawing conical hats, drawing pictures, participating in club activities, sports activities, teambuilding, culinary exchange programs... These experiences give Lao students a space to experience and feel the quintessence of Vietnamese culture, while sharing with Vietnamese students the beauty of traditional Lao culture.

During the program to explore Vietnamese culture and history, Lao students had the opportunity to visit many famous landmarks such as President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, Museum, and Exhibition "80 Years of Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness".

These are experiences that help Lao students understand more about the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time feel the similarities in the spirit of independence, freedom and national solidarity between the two brotherly countries.

In a variety of academic and linguistic exchange activities, Lao students had a class and discussion with students from the Language and Vietnamese Studies Department of Thanh Do University. This was not only an opportunity for students to exchange and learn about culture through language, but also helped students practice communication skills, improve confidence and build a globally connected mindset.

“Thanh Do University left me with many good impressions: spacious facilities, friendly atmosphere, enthusiastic teachers who always care and are close to students. The students are very open, hospitable and lovely, always ready to help. I feel the sincerity in every smile, greeting and the way everyone shares with us.” - Son, a Lao student, shared his feelings during the cultural exchange journey between Vietnamese and Lao students.

Sports exchange, connecting youth – exciting friendly volleyball matches, energetic team building activities have become a bridge connecting students of the two countries, where laughter, team spirit and sharing are strongly spread.

Sports are considered a “common language”, an indispensable activity in the series of exchange experiences of Lao students. From volleyball matches, “Jumping Friendship”, Yoga to Teambuilding activities have become energetic highlights in the series of international student exchange activities between Vietnam and Laos 2025.

Students also had exciting and laughter-filled moments in Teambuilding activities at the Thado Edupark Educational Ecosystem campus. A series of consecutive physical games such as funny pants, sack race, land boat racing, blindfolded can smashing, flour passing and tug of war stirred up the atmosphere, creating an endless space for connection. Each game not only brought excitement, but also required team spirit, coordination and dexterity among members.

“What I remember most are the teambuilding activities and club exchanges. When we played together and overcame challenges together, I saw the distance between us and the Thanh Do students completely disappear, replaced by connection and laughter.” – Phat, a Laotian student, shared after the trip.

Closing Ceremony – Closing the journey, opening a strong friendship

The exchange journey ended with a solemn, warm and emotional Closing Ceremony, opening a new chapter in the friendship and educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The highlight of the closing ceremony was the culinary competition “Vietnamese – Laotian Flavors: Convergence of Essence”, where Vietnamese – Laotian students showed off their cooking skills and introduced typical dishes of their ethnic groups.

Lao students brought traditional dishes such as Lao sticky rice, Savanakhet grilled chicken, fish sausage, etc. Thanh Do students introduced the quintessence of Vietnamese cuisine with fried spring rolls, pho rolls, and lotus seed longan sweet soup.

The Vietnamese handwriting on the Thanh Do notebook carries sincere feelings and deep thanks from Lao students.

Lao students and Chengdu students enthusiastically introduced traditional dishes in the culinary competition “Vietnamese-Lao Flavors: Convergence of Essence”.

The contest prizes added to the exciting atmosphere of the program.

The highest prize of the competition belonged to the Authentic Lao Cuisine Team with dishes that embody the quintessence of Lao cuisine. With the sophistication in the preparation, preserving the traditional flavors, and a presentation containing profound meaning, the team conquered the judges and won the highest prize.

It is not simply a culinary party, but here the cultural elements converge, the exchange and spread of homeland flavors. Students and teachers enjoy together, share stories associated with the dishes, and then realize that, although coming from different cultures, all share the same pride in tradition and national identity.

Summarizing the program, Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van, Permanent Vice President of Thanh Do University, highly appreciated the results achieved and affirmed the practical significance of the series of activities. Through diverse and multi-dimensional experiences, the program not only fostered the spirit of solidarity and friendship between students of Vietnam and Laos, but also opened up many opportunities for deeper cooperation in the fields of training and student exchange.

The school would like to express our sincere thanks to the Board of Directors, teachers and 23 Lao students from Quang Tri Pedagogical College for their enthusiastic participation. Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Dinh Thang, Principal of Quang Tri Pedagogical College, sent his most sincere thanks to the Board of Directors, Teachers and students of Thanh Do University for the extremely valuable experience. The journey is a meaningful gift for each Lao student.

Lao student representatives also expressed their deep gratitude to teachers and friends from Chengdu, emphasizing that this trip brought them not only knowledge and experience, but also precious feelings, new friends, and unforgettable memories.

In a solemn atmosphere, souvenirs, hugs and bright smiles were exchanged. All created a perfect ending moment, full of emotions.

In the program, Thanh Do University announced to award 15 scholarships with 100% free tuition for the entire course, Information Technology major for Lao students. The school creates maximum conditions to support students to be able to study and complete the program at both Quang Tri Pedagogical College and Thanh Do University.

Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van, Permanent Vice President of Thanh Do University, hopes that there will be many international student exchange cooperation programs, further expanding the cooperative relationship between the two schools.

I also want to bring back knowledge and interesting lessons from the openness and learning spirit of teachers and students of Thanh Do, to apply to my studies and life."

This is also a great source of motivation for Thanh Do University to continue to become a bridge, connecting students in an international, multicultural, multi-experience environment, spreading the spirit of learning, innovation, integration, and development.
