According to The Guardian on July 11, Louis Vuitton confirmed that an unauthorized third party had hacked into its UK operating system, obtaining data such as names, contact information and customer shopping history. The brand said there was no evidence that the data was misused, but acknowledged the possibility of fraud or deceit.

In an email to customers, Louis Vuitton confirmed that financial information such as bank accounts remains confidential. The company also reported the incident to the relevant authorities, including the Information Commissioner's Office.

The attack is believed to have taken place on July 2 and was first reported by Bloomberg. This is the third cyber-security incident targeting LVMH's systems in just three months. Last week, Louis Vuitton's South Korean branch was also attacked using a similar method. In addition, Christian Dior Couture - LVMH's second largest brand - also announced in May that hackers had accessed some customer data.

The incident comes amid a surge in cyber attacks on the UK retail sector. British police said four suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of cyber attacks on Marks & Spencer (M&S), Co-op and Harrods. The suspects include a 17-year-old British teenager, a 19-year-old Latvian man and two other Britons aged 19 and 20.

M&S was reportedly the first retailer to be hit by a hacker attack in April, which caused its online sales system to be down for nearly seven weeks. The same month, Co-op also reported a similar incident, forcing some of its IT departments to be shut down. Harrods was targeted again in early May, restricting internet access to its website to prevent unauthorized access.

Police said the arrests came just days after Archie Norman, chairman of M&S, told MPs that at least two other major British companies had been victims of undisclosed cyber attacks. Norman said the attack on M&S had caused serious damage to its systems and was a warning of the level of cyber security risks facing retailers.

Louis Vuitton has not yet commented further on the measures taken to remediate and ensure data security following the incident.
