Madam Pang plays big, applying FIFA's advanced VAR technology to Thai-League

(Dan Tri) - Thai-League 2025-26 will apply the most advanced VAR technology, which was used at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This is expected to help increase the quality and transparency of Thai football.

This advanced video assistant referee (VAR) technology uses a “Hawk-eye” system to detect situations where the ball goes out of bounds as early as possible, as well as the location of the foul inside or outside the penalty area, to provide more accurate notifications to referees.

This advanced VAR technology has just been applied by FIFA at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Previously, the above technology appeared in the Premier League in the 2024-25 season.

In addition to upgrading technology, the Thai national championship Thai-League 1 also increased the number of cameras serving VAR, from 4 to 6.

The two additional cameras added in the new season will include a reverse angle camera, to monitor actions off the ball: the behavior of other players on the field, in the technical area, the behavior of officials and team staff in the technical area.

The remaining camera added will perform close-up shooting tasks, helping the referee's review situations to be clearer and the images displayed sharper.

Not only Thai-League 1 (equivalent to V-League), Thai-League 2 (equivalent to the First Division of Vietnamese football) also applies VAR technology.

Madam Pang and Thai football upgraded VAR technology for the Thai-League with the aim of increasing the attractiveness of the tournament, while increasing transparency in refereeing.

Recently, Thai referees have been criticized for their impartiality in the matches they officiate in domestic tournaments.
