Fascinated by watching the dance of light in the sky of the Han River

On the evening of May 31, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival – DIFF 2025 officially opened, awakening brilliant colors along the poetic Han River.

The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival – DIFF 2025, sponsored and co-organized by Sun Group and the People's Committee of Da Nang City, officially opened on the evening of May 31, marking the spectacular return of the most anticipated event of the summer.

After nearly two decades of organization, DIFF still affirms its strong attraction. From the afternoon, the roads along the Han River such as Tran Hung Dao, Bach Dang, Dragon Bridge, Han River Bridge... were bustling with people. On the main stage, the "prime" location to admire the fireworks display, more than 10,000 seats were filled early.

The opening night of DIFF 2025 with the theme "Cultural Essence" is a confrontation between the host team Da Nang - Vietnam 1 and last year's defending champion Finland.

Not disappointing the audience’s expectations, the home team made an impressive “debut” with a 20-minute performance. More than 5,000 fireworks were programmed to match the music to the second, creating an airborne symphony to welcome visitors to DIFF and the Han River city on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang.

With four shows: Blending – Honoring – Integrating – Pioneering & Glory, the Da Nang fireworks team used more than 100 unique fireworks effects to tell the story of a Vietnam with a strong identity, always proud of its national cultural traditions, but also constantly changing, creating and reaching out for integration.

With clear improvements in music and fireworks display techniques, the home team's "opening" performance is considered one of Da Nang's most impressive performances since participating in DIFF up to now.

Ms. Kim Lien, a resident of Da Nang, emotionally shared: “I am truly proud of the children of Da Nang city. This year’s fireworks are so beautiful, the music is also very attractive. Every year my family buys tickets to the stands to cheer for the home team, it has been an indispensable part of our summer.”

Meanwhile, the reigning DIFF champion, JoHo Pyro team from Finland, flew more than 8,000km, with one determination: to bring the Northern Lights back to life in the sky of Da Nang.

With the theme “Nordic Lights”, the Finnish team continued to assert their class by perfectly combining fireworks with vibrant pop-rock songs such as Diamond Eyes, Heroes Are Calling, Winner Takes It All.

In particular, with the background music of Stormskärs Maja, which has a strong hometown sound, the water cannon - the "secret weapon" that helped them win the championship once again satisfied the audience with powerful columns of light erupting from the water surface, as vivid as waves crashing against the cliffs.

The Finnish team also unexpectedly included a fireworks show with the Vietnamese music Bong phu hoa – Vu tru co bay, as a response to the hospitable greeting of the coastal city of Da Nang. A subtle and emotional Asian-European harmony, making many audiences admire and enjoy.

Member of the jury, musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association, shared after the opening night: “As someone who has followed DIFF for a long time, I feel that the performance of the Vietnamese team has many innovations compared to last year, while the Finnish team still maintained good form in their performance. Both teams handled the music very well. Both performances skillfully used melodies that are both international and imbued with national traditions. This year's DIFF 2025 season will certainly bring the audience many interesting and surprising things.”

DIFF 2025 is not only a spectacular fireworks festival, but also a rare feast of art and technology.

This year’s stage is twice as large as last year’s, completely upgraded with modern mechanical, LED and sound systems. Explosive performances by famous singers such as Tung Duong, singer Kieu Anh,… along with professional dance troupes bring an unprecedentedly captivating experience.

Many meaningful performances were elaborately staged to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang.

In particular, large-scale Sky AR technology is applied to a space of more than 600,000 square meters along the Han River. Thousands of spectators simultaneously raised their phones to admire the vivid 3D images appearing in the sky: from Cham dances, ancient towers, to the symbol of a whale jumping in the wind and waves, etc. All impressively recreate the spirit, culture and historical depth of Da Nang.

Many families, couples and groups of young people took the opportunity to capture every brilliant moment through their phone cameras, creating another "forest of light" reflected from the grandstands and the streets along the river.

Ms. Truong Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared: “Up to this point, the number of visitors to Da Nang has had a good growth rate and it is forecasted that in the upcoming competition nights, the number of guests who have booked rooms will be at 80% capacity. We believe that businesses accompanying the city will create unique festivals and attractive tourism products, contributing to the growth of the number of tourists and making an important contribution to spreading the brand to Da Nang domestically and internationally. In particular, affirming the brand of Da Nang as the leading festival and event destination for Asians on the world tourism map”.

DIFF 2025 opens a journey to discover Da Nang summer in the most vibrant festival space in Asia. The next competition night on the evening of June 7 with the theme "Creative Art" will be a competition between Vietnam 2 and Poland, promising to bring eye-catching fireworks, explosive music and emotional artistic stories.
