Medvedev challenged the audience to go down to the field.

Italy Angry at being booed, Daniil Medvedev gestured for silence and then waved the audience off the field in his loss to Jannik Sinner in the ATP Finals semi-finals.

Medvedev began to lose his temper after a double fault, leading to a 0-2 deficit in the third set. On the following point, he failed to save a Sinner net shot and angrily threw his racket. When he went to pick up his racket, Medvedev was booed by the crowd. He responded by making a silent gesture to the crowd and then pointing at some people sitting nearby, waving his hand at them to get off the court.

The 27-year-old continued to play but lost all his spirit, quickly losing 1-6 in the third set and was eliminated. Sinner reached the final with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 victory and will meet Novak Djokovic in the final match.

After the match, when he calmed down, Medvedev admitted his mistake with the bad behavior. "It's not a big deal," he said. "To be honest, I lost my temper after losing the serve game. The audience in Turin was great all week. It's normal for them to cheer for the home player. I also appreciate that they applauded after every good shot I made."

For the second time this month, Medvedev has reacted to the crowd mid-match. Earlier this month, during his second-round loss to Grigor Dimitrov, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-7(2), in the Paris Masters, the Russian put his hand to his lips to silence the fans and then continued to provoke the crowd. On his way off the court, Medvedev was booed again by the Paris crowd. He responded by raising his middle finger to the crowd.

Medvedev's relationship with the crowd in Turin was not as bad as in Paris. After losing to Sinner, he was still happy to thank the fans for bringing positive energy. "They actually celebrated a little bit when I double-faulted and lost the game, but that's normal. Overall, they were great," added the world number three.

Medvedev finished the season with 66 wins - the most on the ATP Tour this season. He won five titles, including two Masters 1000s. After being eliminated in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals, the Russian said he would have a long vacation with his family and would likely not prepare too much for the Australian Open - a Grand Slam starting in January next year.
