2,979 m high, part of the Pu Luong mountain range in the Hoang Lien Son range, this mountain is very famous when the purple chi pau flowers bloom from September to mid-October, turning the whole space into a magical picture.
According to the local H'Mong people, Ta Chi Nhu means "buffalo foot mountain", because for generations, people have let buffaloes, cows, goats, and horses graze on the mountain and drink water from the streams. On the way up the mountain, the landscape changes constantly: from dense primeval forests, low-canopy forests, long grasslands, straight bamboo forests to hot mineral springs hidden at the foot of the mountain. Each height brings a different beauty, keeping visitors with continuous surprises.
From Hanoi , the route to Ta Chi Nhu consists of two stages: About 270 km of road travel to Mo Chi climbing point and then the trekking journey. Each step consumes physical strength, but in return, the scene of the old trees dyed in yellow sunlight and white clouds floating like giant silk strips makes everyone fascinated. The season of chi pau flowers, a low-growing shrub, is considered a specialty of trekking Ta Chi Nhu. Few people know that the name originates from the innocent answer of the H'Mong people when tourists ask "what flower is this?". "Tsi pau" simply means "don't know", but it is that anecdote that creates the curious name, bringing many people to find it. On the undulating mountain slopes and deep in the misty valley, the color of the flowers seems to dye the whole sky and earth in a vast purple-pink color, mixed with the beautiful sunset. Passing Hai Cay slope, crossing the bamboo forest, visitors will reach the resting area, where they can see the top of Ta Chi Nhu. From here it takes about 2 more hours to reach the 7th highest mountain in Vietnam.
After the purple flower season, winter comes and spring comes, Ta Chi Nhu will again put on another beauty of green mountains and forests, white snow, frost and rhododendron flowers. A trip usually lasts two days and one night, visitors should go in groups and hire a guide. Climbing Ta Chi Nhu is not only reaching the top of a high mountain to surpass yourself, but also a poetic rendezvous with nature and enjoying moments of freedom amidst the vast sky and clouds of the Northwest.
