Despite US tariffs, Da Nang's exports still grow steadily

DNVN - According to the Da Nang Statistics Office, the city's import and export activities in the first 8 months of 2025 maintained a stable growth momentum, associated with the strong recovery of production and trade.

It is estimated that in August 2025, the total two-way import and export turnover of Da Nang will reach 845 million USD, up 0.8% over the previous month and up sharply by 12.7% over the same period in 2024. Of which, exports are estimated at 435 million USD, up 1.2% over the previous month and up 7.8% over the same period; imports are estimated at 410 million USD, up 0.4% over the previous month and up 18.4% over the same period last year.

In the first 8 months of 2025, the total import and export turnover of goods is estimated at nearly 6 billion USD, an increase of nearly 13% over the same period in 2024. Of which, goods export is estimated at more than 3 billion USD, an increase of 14.5%; goods import is estimated at nearly 3 billion USD, an increase of 11.3%. The trade balance continues to maintain a trade surplus of 95 million USD, contributing to strengthening the trade position of Da Nang City.

According to the Da Nang Statistical Office, the city's exports continue to expand and improve access to international markets, while imports ensure the supply of raw materials and equipment for production and economic development. These positive changes affirm the increasingly important role of international trade in creating growth momentum and enhancing Da Nang's position in the integration process.

According to the decree announced by the US government, the 20% tax rate applied to Vietnam will take effect from August 7, 2025. In the context of direct impact on export activities, Da Nang still recorded stability in import and export turnover of goods, showing the adaptability of local businesses and the initiative in searching and expanding markets.

“This development not only reflects the resilience of international trade activities but also affirms Da Nang's role as an important regional trading center,” said the Da Nang Statistics Office.

Also according to this agency, on August 6, the US President announced the imposition of an additional 25% tax on imported goods from India starting August 27. Along with the 25% base reciprocal tax rate that was previously applied, many key Indian products entering the US market will be subject to a total tax rate of up to 50%.

This reduces the competitive advantage of Indian goods, especially in the textile, cotton clothing, knitwear, footwear and handbags groups - industries that account for a large proportion of the country's exports to the US. This development will likely open up opportunities for other countries, including Vietnam, to increase their market share in the US market.
